Horizon was just a way for Bioware to make sure the VS survives. Kaidan and Ashley have roughly the same dialog lines, I hear.

Maybe, but I don't care.
I asked for their help and they ignored me, am I supposed to welcome them with open arms if they come trotting back in 3?
They can go **** themselves! I don't need that kind of help, thank you.

Well, I'll accept an apology from them. If I don't get one, well, I'll be less receptive.

BONUS POST: It better be one damn good apology. <_<

If this happened, the Bioware devs had better hide because there would be a lot of VERY, VERY pissed off fans.  The Kaidanites would flip.

Who says the betrayer can't be redeemed?  Just because they do betray Shepard (in my scenario), doesn't mean they want to.  That is the key - it is why I mentioned indoctrination.  Picture:

(male) Shepard and Kaiden are holding each other at gunpoint on a space station converted for Reaper use.

Shepard(UR):  Kaiden, I know you are stronger than this.  Fight it!
Kaiden:  I can't Shepard.  I'm just too tired.  It...it's been there since Horizon I think.  That's why I didn't go with you. *twitches*  Sorry, but I have to kill you.
Shepard(ULB):  Dammit Kaiden.  I want my friend back!

How would that not be an awesome, and powerful, scene? And it could go so many, many ways.

What I hate is that they still go on like you abandoned them even if you tell them you were in a coma. It's like "Hello! Earth to Kaidan. I said COMA."

It all feels very fabricated. At least in Kaidan's case. The dialog seems much more suited towards Ashley. Anyway, the game is going to act like Kaidan was genuine in what he said, so I want an apology from Kaidan should he return (which he probably will).

Yea, but Ash never complained about Tali or Liara.  She specifically complained about Wrex and Garrus.  I think she has a particular suspicious streak over turians given her family's history with the First Contact War.

I'm back in saying that I hope BioWare lets us put a bullet in their foreheads in ME3. Along with Liara.

It would be powerful, but given the likes of Saren and Benezia can't fight off indoctrination short of shooting themselves in the head, I don't see how Kaidan and Ash could manage.

I am going with "not exposed to direct Reaper indoctrination" for 500. ;) Why I think it might be some implanted control thingamajigger.

Reminds me of the idea of Shepard having Reaper technology inside of her or him and getting indoctrinated by the Reapers as a result. I would hate that.

Well, it seems like indoctrination is tailored depending on usefulness of victim. Remember what Rana Thanoptis said? I don't think length of exposure matters as much. Those salarians were gibbering wreaks within a few weeks. I think the "push" wasn't as strong with Saren specifically because Sovereign wanted his mind intact so he could be useful. If put under focused indoctrination, I don't think they could resist it.

UHD disapproves -100. While I am not the hugest fan of Kaiden, I don't want him dead. And Ash is my second favorite romance (Tali, Ash, Garrus, ftr).

Liara, on the other hand....Loads heat sink.

Note, it is because I dislike the asari mostly. Not Liara specifically.

Like the ones Saren had? Yeah, that worked out great.

Not to mention chips often seem like it allows a Reaper to download it's consciousness into a victim. Consider what Sovereign did to Saren at the end of ME1 or how Harbinger hops around in various Collectors.

Damn it, how come every time I pressed the 'buy' button for the firepower pack it always redirect me to the Mass Effect site?? *RAGERAGE*

Anyway....

It is quite odd considering Ash/Kaidan did not get abducted by the collectors when 1/3 of the colonies did.

Not to mention, he was right in the front line and appeared after the collectors left. Indoctrination? In such a short time? The victims in Vermire took about three days to gone mental.

But he did manage to fight it at the end. He was just too close to Sovereign. Had he not been as close, or as heavily modified, he probably could have resisted.

I am of the opinion that asari, while powerful, are actually weak willed and easily swayed by the right stimuli. Liara is a good example of that. A couple of months with Shepard (romanced or not), and she gives up a career she was obsessed with, for information brokering? Exposure to the Shepard Effect (patent pending) also helped, apparently, break some of Sovereign's hold on Benezia as well. Same with Saren.

So it can be done. The power of ULB and LLR can not be stated enough. :P

In-lore, yes. I mean we see Ashley/Kaidan get frozen somewhere on Horizon and then they magically show up right behind a crate after an intense battle with the Collectors.

When I think of the overall structure of the trilogy though, no because they're specifically making them survive to ME3.

Yea, but the only way for Saren to escape ultimately was to shoot himself in the head. Somehow, I don't think that's the ending Ash/Kaidan fans would like.

Retribution goes really in-depth on the indoctrination process.

It isn't pleasant.

That explains liking Ashley.

Who I nuked on Virmire.

That's a statement considering how much I despise Kaidan.

I tend to dislike the idea of any LI getting indoctrinated. It's a very easy way to ****** people off.

Agreed.  However, if done correctly (and, granted an implant or something) able to be actually ended, it could be great storytelling.

Indoctrination of any character, especially your LI, would be quite realistic.
