Some of us just use a bit more logic when looking at it, I guess.  Need a tech specialist?  Tali or Legion.  Legion is likely to be less affected by heat.  He goes.

Fire team leader? No one trusts Miranda, so she's out. That leaves....Oh wait. Garrus is on the list. End of fugging list.

Need a powerful biotic? Samara is a matriarch asari. Jack is an unstable, ridiculously powerful biotic. Err on side of caution, pick the one with almost 1000 years of experience.

Someone needs to go back. Hmmm.......send someone super strong, or send back someone who doesn't want to hold the line? So, either Grunt or Mordin. Wait, they might need medical assistance. Mordin goes.

Fire team 2? Garrus is still on the list?!?! There is no other choice.

I only paused at the final team. Tali? easy choice. Now who else? I'd love to take my man Garrus, but someone needs to hold the line. Don't trust Miranda to keep everyone alive. He stays. Some ranged will be necessary to cover up for Tali's shotgun of doom. Hmmmmm......More biotics is good. Samara, you're with me!

And everyone came home safely. True Story.
