Bonuses? Who needs bonuses when you now have the built-in capabiltiy to link suits with Tali? Being a Quarian is your bonus.

Maybe it's just me, but I never really wanted to link suits with Tali, since she'd be the one to suffer all the consequences, being sick for weeks afterwards etc, while Shepard remains in perfect health. I'd just feel really bad about that.

Where's Jacob when you need him? But the prrrriiiizzzeee!!!!

Judging by Kal'Reegars dialague about strike-ops, Tali would most likely be a Techincal specialist attache to the Quarian equivilant of the US Navy Seals.

Yeah, but Tali is also the squad leader on Freedom's Progress. She was the one giving the orders. Tech Spec wouldn't have combat authority over a Marine, I'd think.

I'm thinking she's a Marine. Or, at least at a position in the fleet that outranks the grunts, anyway.

She would be in the Fleet Navy and everyone knows Marines work for the Navy.

The most important question is what Zaeed's opinion of Tali is. Because Zaeed's opinion is the one that matters.

Tali wasn't on the combat team on Heastrom (she was with the scientist team) so I don't think so. She just has a lot of combat experiance.

I'd say no, since Kal doesn't treat her like one of his own and acts very deferential to her.

He also refers to her as Ma'am. I think Tali outranks Reeger.

Why would you say that?

Just because she was the one downloading the data, does NOT mean she wasn't part of the combat team.

Did you see how many dead geth there were in that room?

What? Never had a tummy ache from eating too many sweets? :)

It just never seemed appealing, since among quarians, both suit-linkers are inflicting harm on themselves to demonstrate their bond, but with Tali and Shepard, Tali does all the suffering. I guess Shepard could go shoot himself in the foot afterwards to even things out.

Except Tali is not a civilian.

She's a soldier. One of the most accomplished of her species.

I know, I'm weird, but I couldn't help wondering what Tali smelled like when she first said the 'linking suits' line. I've spent time in MOPP-4 (basically a sealed hazmat suit). If it works like she says it works, you're going to smell the other person.

I have a theory on this.

Unfortunately, it leads to much sideways glancing from certain people...

Because I think every quarian has to have at least some military/combat training (probably before they leave for their pilgrimage)

Found this handy list of Cerberus crimes...not Tali related per say but still a good reference.

-and if you are wondering, Red has already argued on this thread, no need to start it again ;)

Not necessarily of rank however, combat proficiency seems to be almost a requirement of the Quarian species, being especially good at it does not instantly a marine make. Of intrest, the Admirals let Tali join Shepard based on her wishes, unlikely that they would let an enlisted military tech specialist leave so easily. Tali likely a civilan who worked with the marines for certain ops.

On Haestrom their relationship seemed more like a soldier protecting a VIP rather than protecting his commanding officer. Tali probably outranks him in quarian society, but I don't think of her as a marine, even though she is combat-hardened and handy with a shotgun.

I imagine it smells fine personally.  Those suits are a lot more advanced than equivalents today, they probably take care of all kinds of disinfecting and cleaning needs, bad smells being one of the things taken care of.

Also remember, quarian society far less formal than human. Quarians are family. It's not just like asking your superior officer in the human military. Besides, even if she did decide to just up and leave, they couldn't do anything about it. Imprison her? No. Monitored work detail? Not if she isn't on the fleet. Exile? Only if it affects the entire fleet.

Regardless of the format/context, a lot of people here just don't want to hear about different ways to kill off Tali.  Therefore, the courteous thing to do is not post those stories in the actual forum, just link them instead.  There is definitely a market for the masochistic, but plenty of us are complete saps and d'awwoholics as well.

It  was not about different ways to kill anyone.    Really that last line  summed entire story up.    Story  it was the amount of the time  they had it was about the time shared.   That time, those memories  were something that not even  Harbinger putting  Shehard in the position that he put shephard  could not take away from them.   It is  sad? Evening people. Last night the mother of all storms blew through here. I've never seen lightning look so much like a strobe light.

Anyway, I would like to talk about Tali. So, topics?

Good point, though we believe their command structure isn't quite that loose, however, without any real point of reference, our opinion is rather difficult to defend. We still believe she is a civilian consultant of no rank, however, we cannot prove this.

They never give any detail on Quarian ranks, but from what I gleaned through Ascension and the N7 mission with the crashed Quarian shuttle, I believe most crew members of the Floatilla are actually part of the Quarian Navy. They probably "retire" at some point in their lives (I see the Conclave as civilian), but I would say that the bridge crew and operations staff of every ship probably hold active rank.

We've seen that there are admirals, captains, commanders, and lieutenants among Quarian crew, and probably more ranks. I would assume, from his deference and manner, that Kal'Reegar is enlisted (or the Quarian equivalent).

Best guess? Tali isn't a Marine. They would have said so if that was the case. I do believe, however, that she's probably a naval lieutenant. She was put in charge of both the Freedom's Progress and the Haestrom mission, and she's at just the right age to be a junior officer.

Nations like Israel where military service is compulsory don't put as much emphasis on rank as do countries where service is volunteer-only. I can see the Quarians following this pattern. Admirals and captains are rare and are honored as such. Many people probably go from lieutenant to commander during their compulsory 'careers;' because of that, the Quarians probably don't make a big deal about those ranks and never really mention them in casual conversation.
