I'm just soft-hearted as hell I guess.  I can't get around how there has to be (fictional) people in those coffins.

Hey, sad movies and books have their worth, too.

ecpasaly when you have to kill the best looking quarian on the galaxy.

Someone has an everyone dies save ready to import to see how badly it breaks the next game. Wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a DA:O/Awakenings retcon either.

I like Tali, but her presence is not mandatory for me to find enjoyment in the game. But I already have several everyone lives imports, so I have that luxury to play around now.

they have statet that the save where everyone dies don't go over in ME3, unless you mean that the ones you lost in ME2 will be replaced with someone else or similar.

that's your choice not mine I prefer to see it on youtube.

I thought the coffins were the worst part of losing your squad members. Sort of the game's way of saying, "Hey moron. See these here? These guys? They died. Because of you. Good job, ******."

Motivated me to do the whole mission a second time for no deaths, anyway.

...Admittedly, I found it slightly weird that my dead Legion had a coffin right next to Thane's, but I probably would have done the same in Shepard's position. Respected that robot just as much as the rest.

Yeah, that's what they said about DA:O once, too.

But enough about my morbid tendencies. I can't believe people have not bowed down to the awesomeness that was my antibiotics/allergies post.

Jack just always seemed too...morbidly insane for me. It's like almost every other line of hers is part of a hate rant about some thing or another, and if you side with Miranda in the confrontation, she doesn't even talk to you anymore and just says FAK AWF MAN (even if you Paragon her loyalty back). I really didn't see the development behind her, even a good distance down the romance.

Also, I find it very odd that Shepard has no qualms with using a life-sentenced convict. If the dialogue had been there, I would have had Shepard refuse to recruit Jack for all the laws she broke. I held up the law in any dialogue I could, but you get remarkably little decision in that mission.

It's a fair opinion (and, BTW, wherever you came from, you seem like a great person to see around here for discussions).

Jack's a tragic figure in her own way, though her hell is partly of her own making, unlike Tali's.  I dunno how loving and well-adjusted I'd be if the daily schedule in my childhood involved fights to the death followed by "positive" conditioning with narcotics.  But like all of Shepard's team she has a chance to rise above, though it's pretty much only visible if she's the LI.  I personally like having her hold the biotic field during the suicide mission.

As with all the characters in ME (to a certain extent) you get out of them what you put in, be it careful study through play or reading between the lines or whatever.

Anyway, to address your other point, Jack is almost assuredly less of a menace to society in Shepard's care than she is even in prison.

Good point.  One of my favorites is the extremely tragic Jin-Roh.  But they are considerably less interactive than a video game in which I have significant input.  I hate having to make decisions to get well-developed characters I like killed.

I think Jack did demonstrate an ability to rise above her past even if you don't romance her. Then again, I don't know where her dialogue goes if you're a male Shepard and forego the romance. With the female Shepard, at least, she discusses putting her past behind her. That's what Shepard does, encourage everyone to push beyond where they thought their limitations were.

I'd have to know more context.  Is the fic more about her confronting her alienation from the Flotilla?  If so, option 2 would be better.  Otherwise, they seem roughly equivalent in terms of drama without knowing more context.

In my fanfiction relationships outside of the quarian species is an offense to their people and Tali and Shepard's relationship is exposed.

Option 2 it is!

The only reason I would see in option 1 is that it's less confrontational to the Flotilla, meaning that she's likely to have more of a chance to explain herself to them (opening the way for interesting dialogue on just why such a thing shouldn't be offensive).  With option 2 she's just going to look like a violent traitor to the rest of the quarians.

She does.  It's the standard post-loyalty dialogue, I guess.

Jack definitely fits in as a tragic character and some development does spring from that, but to me it never really felt like she moved past that. Looking at another character for contrast, Legion completely defies what you would expect from a Geth and then continues to drive that into the ground when he starts talking about ethics between organics and synthetics; almost every conversation with him brings something new to the table. Conversely, it seemed like Jack was always focused on the same topic: Anger about her past. That holds up for a while, but after a while I got sick of it.

Very true, hadn't really thought about this before. Might feel different about Jack if I spent more time using her as a squadmate (though biotics aren't really my thing, I prefer tech).

I kill Tali fairly often. She, Legion, and Mordin are the characters who have the most potential for impact on the game world, which means their loss should matter more than, say, Jack's.

I've sometimes wondered what kind of fresh material Jack might get to keep her important in ME3.  Tali's trajectory seems much easier to speculate on in that regard.

If I had to guess, it might turn out that Jack can make another one of these happen, which may or may not be really important in the upcoming Reaper War.

Either that or... you know how her alternate appearance pack describes her getup as a biker outfit? I could totally see her leading a pack of Outlaw Space Biker / Fighter Pilots. It would be spectacular.

Definitely this.

I'm again reminded about the codex on how quarians feel about synthetics.  They're less likely to trust them, but they're more likely to treat them as people.  An interested juxtaposition of attitudes.

Heh. But when there is such a narrow focus, any deviation seems like a breakthrough. I was pleased by her dialogue change from "whatever, I'll do it and then I'm gone" when asked about the mission to "we've got to take those Collectors out before they do us first."

As an infiltrator, I've got the tech end of things fairly well wrapped up with Tali in the squad. My first biotic choice is Samara, for her ability to suppress bad guys with her AR, but switching it up with Jack is fun, too. Jack's extra dialogue in places like the derelict Collector ship is interesting.

I wish.

If I had a say, i'd like the next set of AA packs for Tali, Jacob, and Samara.

Jacob would get his own set of Cerberus Assault Armor, kind of like the suit I never wore ever. Samara would get... something. Something that says 'knight-templar'. Maybe her own Blood Dragon-ish armor.

And Tali?

I wonder if the first one just didn't sell or something so they back-burnered the other packs.

I support all of these ideas.  Jacob could do with something that made him look a little less V-shaped.  And Samara could use a little less cleavage.

And Tali?  Pretty much anything would be spectacular.

They could at least announce it, if that's the case.

Giving people false hopes is not a nice thing to do.

I'm not seein' it. It was released just before Kasumi was released. 'Stolen Memories' was $7, The AA Pack was $3, and the lowest denomnation of Bioware points you can get that would cover 'Stolen Memories' (back then at least, before the released Overlord) is $10. It's bulletproof.

I'm just thinking that concepting, modeling, hammering out bugs, and compiling AA packs takes a while and is much lower on the totem pole than giving people what they want: more story.

In the game sure, but outside of the game she's non-existant.

No Tali merchandise or Tees anywhere, nor a simple poster.
