The Quarian hood doesn't neccessarily represent hair, although it is obviously interesting that the males do not wear them. The whole issue of Quarian hair is still pure speculation. Yeah, the fact that we know nothing really hangs over all of this speculation talk.  Really, pretty much anything is possible at this point

And I contribute a LOT around here. Stories, artwork, intellectual conversation.

I dunno, long shot, but for some reason that's what I think when I see them.

Hoods, or veils, could also represent purity and chastity, although I think this idea would be ingrained in the older generations... not necessarily Tali.  But traditions are hard to drop.

I said it could be.  Not that it was.

My personal belief is that the hood came about as an amalgamation of personal beliefs, traditional feminine clothing choices, and sheer aesthetic choice.

The actual in game reason is a mystery.  The reason that its name translates as walled garden now is clearly symbolism on Bioware's part intended at the player.
