Just a note, we know next to nothing about how the Morning War started. The quarians may have had a completely different government structure at that point.

Still don't understand why you enjoy writing about bad stuff happening to Xen if you like her so much, wouldn't you rather write about happy things?Lividity Jones wrote...

The government ordered immediate shutdown of all of the Geth. Then the Geth resisted. That may be all there really is to it.Phil725 wrote...

When I first joined up and read about it, I like Xen as a character. Reckoning just fleshes out her character, despite it not being canon with the actual game.
You can love a character, but that doesn't mean it's going to be a happy story,

I think part of what makes this story awesome is that it isn't cliched as hell. I want someone to kill everyone in that place, but I'd be really disappointed if it happened. It feels more real when things don't work out as you want them to.
I am very, very interested to see how Xen gets out of there.
I wasn't clear. I'd have no problem with Xen killing a few people on her way out, and then getting revenge on Jason somehow (as long as it is done plausibly). I just don't want her getting rescued by some big goddamn heroes. It's not unknown for quarians to run rescue ops (like Veetor), but I think it would be a mistake to have that happen with Xen.

How could I possibly do her character justice if she doesn't learn to become the character you see in ME2?
It hasn't reached it's conclusion yet so I don't want to give anything away, but her experiences there will teach Daro a very important lesson that will put her on the path to becoming the Admiral you see.
We want people to realize that Xen was at some point, not such a terrible person. A loner, maybe, but she loved her parents, and she was loyal to the people she did care about, and she has always loved her people and wants them to be safe, regardless of how the general quarian treated her in her youth. Then some things happen, bad things, horrible things. We wanted to make what happens to her horrific, but that's just a plot device. It's why it's happening, and what it does to her head and her heart that matter, and how it turns her into a monster.
Our goal is, if you have to shoot Xen in 3, you'll do it, because it's the right thing to do, but after reading our story, you'll understand why she did it, understand why she needed to do it, and you'll look down at ther broken mask with a bullet smoldering inside, and you'll regret that it had to end this way for her.
Thats what we're trying to do.

Since quarians are basically Space-Gypsies, I can see the "be good or I'll call a quarian to take you away!" thing being used to scare at least some children.
I would actually see them using batarians. Especially with colonists.
Imagine that. Shepard being told by his mother that if he isn't good, he'll be taken away by batarain slavers. And then the Mindoir raid. Everyone around him gets taken.

Ah. Right. Yeah, isn't likely the quarians have an admiralty board, and if they did, it likely was only in charge of naval decisions.Phil725 wrote...

...except that it's not canon. Xen as depicted in ME2 is basically a mustache-twirling villain telling people of her desire for world domination. Not that I mean to downplay your skillful writing. Xen is pretty vile as she is actually portrayed.Lividity Jones wrote...

Tali said the government ordered a shutdown of all the geth. This could basically mean a group of technicians in the middle of no where tried to shut the geth down and...got a rather violent reaction from them.

Which is boring.
The creation of the fic sprung from the desire to see her fulfill her potential as a character and as an antagonist.
The real challenge here is to get her from point A to point B.
