They are not racist.  Humanity requires a defense because the various alien species have, as seen, acted in their best interest first.  The turians, for example, have broken sentient races over the knee by utilizing brutal tactics in order to force submission.

That's not to say, however, that I expect such a drastic defense to be neccessary.  Earth must stand firm against alien influences, "politically, socially, and in the worst case, militarily".   We cannot forget Shanxi.

Exactly. Humanity's defensiveness with regard to aliens is understandable. Indeed, humans don't act any more aggressively than any of the other species. As I see it, the ME universe humans have actually acted fairly honorably in most situations, and don't deserve their reputation as domineering aggressors. It seems more that the other races were simply made uncomfortable by the newcomers' precocious infuluence.

Spouting tired ideology... the universal response to hard questions.

PS: "They are not racist" and "Standing firm against alien influences politicallly social and in the worst case militarily" are contradictory.

They are not contradictory.  There is a large difference between working to keep Humanity strong, and actively hating/spitting on/assaulting other races.

As to the ideology... what?  My ideas are well represented by history.  Conservative theory and Realpolitik have been proven to work.  The burden of proof, of your 'utopian universe', falls on your shoulders.

I will not alter a stance that is correct.

Who's left to defend humanity in your version of the galaxy?

Shepard can't do it alone, forever.

If Shepard does everything right?

He won't have to.

Sometimes... all it takes is one man.

Look at Jesus. Or MLK. Or Ghandi. All great men, religious connotations aside, who promoted great things that have had a lasting effect on the world. Sure, there is some negative mixed in there, but there's a lot of good too. It's a start.

I don't have many heroes. Almost none. I have no respect for the majority of people I've met, known, or have heard about. There are exceptions. MLK is one. Without some of the work he did, and the support of those who followed him, I'd have been deprived my best friend through childhood. I'd have been deprived of the girl I asked to prom.

That's what Shepard can be. The person that starts the turnabout. So that one day, maybe quarians won't be looked at with so much mistrust, and that human working the salvage team might hire that quarian on pilgrimage, and maybe they'll be friends, as opposed to telling her humans don't want quarians working there.

There is always a better way. It may be rough, and it may not be easy, but in the end... it can be worth it, for someone out there. Don't you think that's something worthwhile? If not in your game, then in the real world?

I have no real problem with peace.  I support integration of foreign ideas and ideals.  But it would be naive to believe that a defense isn't necessary.   Great leaders, for example, are often helped along by the times they inhabit.  There is a reason it took India so long to break its colonial collar; because until the 1940s, Britain wanted to keep them.  Ghandi's timing was just lucky.  He gave a face to the movement (and if anyone saw tonight's Frankenhole on AS.... XD) at just the right time.

But we cannot stand idly as the machinations of others act to harm us.  We cannot believe that these machinations don't exist.

See, this is where we're miscommunicating.

I don't believe we shouldn't arm up.

I think we should build enough weapons to bomb the turians back to the stone age. It's what we did with Russia. It's what every soveriegn nation has always done.

However, that doesn't mean we can't also offer to use that build up to help the turians when they need it. Just because we pine for human rights, doesn't mean you have to surpress alien rights to do it. You don't need to be a rascist or support rascists to get your point across. You can do it, and do it honorably, in a manner that benefits everyone.

Terra Firma does not support this. They're all about humans first, as opposed to a strong humanity that can stand up not only for itself, but with and for the other races as well.

"Speak softly and carry a big stick".

--Teddy Roosevelt

You're forgetting the whole "speak softly" part there.

Terra Firma appears to believe that only the big stick works.

The Alliance bloodied the Turian Armada's nose before the Alliance even really knew what was going on galactically.  Later, they cleaned the Batarians' clocks when the whole fiasco with them heated up (when the Batarians struck first and then went whining to the Council when they bit off more than they could chew).  The big stick is covered.

I'm not stupid.

Yes, you have to carry a big stick while walking softly, but you don't have to go beating everyone over the head with it. Any moron can teach a child to shoot a weapon. Only the responsible teach them WHY to shoot the weapon. Working towards that is my point. Teaching. Learning. Growth. Learning to trust the man at your side, human or turian, for the person they are. Sure, your governements might be at odds from time to time, but when both your team and theirs liberate that colony from slavers, it's worth that your people were able to work together to do something great. That's what I'm promoting. A world where the good guys are strong, and working together. Not where one dominates the other when they could instead be working in tandem.
