How in the hell is Garrus fanservice?

Well apparently Garrus's voice is unintentional Audio Erotica, according to TV Tropes.

Being of an incompatible sexual orientation, I don't see it as such.  But I can see how it would.

Wait, there's no filter for Garrus's voice? That's just how the guy sounds?!
Damn, I must become friends with Brandon Keener.

Aside from the usual turian voice flange filter, nope.

But this isn't the Garrusmancer thread, so we're technically off-topic...

Hi just wandering over from the Garrus thread, Hello new thread!
I wanted to ask you guys (and its probably been discussed before but sheesh 10k of pages...) so I hope you don't mind me asking again. In your eyes is Tali the classic damsel in distress or is she the self assured woman on a mission? I'm writing my first ff with Tali as the LI and was interested in how she's percieved by the majority of fans.

She knows how to take care of herself. In the room on Haestrom there were dead geth strewn throughout the floor. There's a basic rule in ME that I see as universally encompassing. If you're not with Shepard, your fighting abilities are greatly reduced.

Well, some of the other Turians defiantly use a filter.  Playing Pinnacle Station today, I noticed one of the turians was voiced by the same guy that does a bunch of the salarians.  All he did was slow down his speech, and electronically modify it.

Also, for those who have played it, I would have to say I would love to see a ME3 carry-over of the Apartment you win.  I think taking Tali there would be awesome.  Alone, in the middle of a desert, you can sterilize it pretty well I think.

Most people don;'t think of Tal ias the damsel in distress (Look at what she does when you find her for the first time, she fights like 4-5 guys and kills 2-3 of them before the fight starts.) She has been trained to fight, she is sure of her abilities, but is still new to the greater universe. She's looking to do somethign big with her life I think.

Running into Shepard in ME 1 was an oppertunity for her to do that.

A little of both in my opinion (btw thanks for getting this on topic again). She is definitely assured (she led her own fire team looking for Veetor after Shepard "died" the first time) and much more mature than the first game. She also completed her pilgrimage. However, she is clearly distraught, especially over the incident with her father, but I wouldn't describe her as a "damsel in distress". She is perfectly capable of handling herself. But don't write based on only my opinion of course.

Both.

Tali is unique because she is, at every turn, a contradiction.

She's strong, but has a weak immune system.

She's compassionate, but genocidal.

She's endured constant hardship, but remains optimistic and often snarky.

She's the best her people has to offer, but still wrings her hands when nervous.

She's opinionated, one of the only characters who doesn't back down to Shepard, yet is insecure.

She's both the damsel in distress, and the girl pulling you up as the Collectors fire on the Normandy before the base goes nova.

Tali is like a coin. She has two sides, but they belong on the same piece.

Definitely not damsel in distress.  That's one of the big misconceptions that seems to be made a lot because you end up rescuing her twice and helping her through her trial.  She is an extremely capable fighter, and a very strong and independent person in her own right.

Oh ye me of little faith.
While not my favorite ME character ever, I have to admit that I was surprised at how quickly I grew to like her.
So good job BioWare.

They there. Any friend of the Garrus thread is a friend of ours.

I think too many people are quick to write-off Tali as the damsel in distress type and I will admit that there are a few instances where she comes off as such, but these are moments that tend to happen outside of missions.
Once the firefights begin, Tali is much more self-assured with herself and her abilities and at times even mocks her opponents "Want some more?", for example.
She's has received some of the best training in firearms and hand-to-hand combat. She is very much a 'woman on a mission' when the situation calls for it, but has a softer side underneath that she reverts to once things cool off.

Anyway, hope you find something in that rambling to help you.
Good luck on the fic and be sure to give us a post when its finished!

I doubt this is actually a problem. The Alliance would likely adopt certain Council initiatives when gaining an embassy, such as a "Bill of Rights". I'm sure this would have provisions for interspecies relationships, similar to how they had to accept the Treaty of Farixan. Revelations also says Earth Religion had to adapt quickly to aliens. I'm assuming this means that not only can you obtain a state marriage liscence, but also a religious certificate as well.

Your "Galactic Bill of Rights" idea makes a great deal of sense.  It got me to wondering how bad the debate was on Earth as to if it should be accepted.  On one side, you have the Pro-Human Alliance that wouldn't want to subjegate human desires to the Laws of other races.  Included in this group would be your "inter-species relationships are squicky/immoral/etc people.  On the other hand, you would have your 'Cooperation is Key Coalition', which would see the great benefits offered by the Council Races.

I doubt there was much of a debate. You want to have influence and matter in the galaxy? You have to join the Council. How do you do that? Join the Embassy. How do you do that? Submit to Council law. With people like the asari, garanteed freedom of "bondmates", is likely a given, it was just one more condition of joining the Citadel and gaining more power. Anyone opposed to that would likely have had a very minor voice as opposed to those who wanted it.

Galactic Representative 1: According to section 13.002 it would allow inter-species relationships! How could we allow this? This is just a slippery slope towards allowing any species whether it be TURIAN or DOG.

Galactic Representative 2: Six words. Race of hot blue alien women.

All Other Galactic Representatives: Motion passed!

That's why i think our laws are ridicullous sometimes. Remember the Bartender on Ilium? She said her Father was a Krogan, and her mother, an Asari Matriarch. No laws to prevent such relationship. Fabulous.

Kiwi. Andaius.

I'm told I have a way with words.

I've actually given credence to being a lawyer or politician. I'm generally very good at public speaking. Which is why I have no qualms with using the Paragon option at Tali's trial. I'd have done pretty much the same thing,

The hell do you mean "unintentional"? There's a reason Garrus worked that stick out of his ass in ME2: it allowed him to get a hell of a lot more vocal.

"Scoped and dropped!"

Same can be said for Tali, actually. The very existance of Chattika allows for her to say more stuff. You'll note that no one ever complains about that.

Also, fanservice (assuming that's what this is, and I doubt it) is not bad.

IT also seems like, the Alliance and Humanity are also pretty seperate things at times. Like with the colonies. Alot of them are purely Corperate and other seem to be made of anti- Allaince coloniest. Earth doesn't seem like it's very united yet. Even though it now a full member of the council.
