Found this while browsing Deviant art. I actually think it makes Tali look quite cute.

It's good work, but a little too Na'vi for my tastes. I definitely think Tali should be more "cute" than "drop dead gorgeous" if her face is ever seen, but I'm personally hoping for something a little more alien.

Quick question, is this when Tali goes "So YOU were the one who ordered all the bugs to be planted?" (or something like that):

Yeah, that looks about right.

Also I am of the belief that Tali probably doesn't have hair on her head like a human would  (or else her life would be even more of a Hell in that suit, trust me on this one)

Well the hair question is as debatable as anything else about quarians, I don't think the suits have much to do with it though.  Keep in mind, these aren't something that are equivalent to me or you putting on a helmet or wetsuit.  The quarians have had centuries beyond our tech level to work on materials and set ups that accomodate whatever.  If its hair, they could easily find some way to work around that over all this time.

Yeah, total speculation. I'm inclined to suspect she doesn't have hair, based simply on her avian/reptillian body-shape, but then again, she's apparently a mammal, from a species said to have developed from Simian life-forms, so she may be more human than we'd anticipate. I guess I tend toward the alien just because it's my personal preference, being a total xenophile, lol!

That depends on what it is, and if it is what I think it is, I'm not exactly holding my breath.

I wonder. Since quarians aren't exactly from Earth would they even be considered Mammals?

I don't think aliens would officially fit into the taxonomic classifications for creatures on Earth, so I'd be more inclined to just say mammal analogues.

Yeah, that's probably the most appropriate classification.

Makes me wonder what it was that made them evolve to look humanoid, instead of going for something reptile-looking, like salarians or...(I don't really know what turians classifies as, but similar to them)

Isn't there some reference to Quarians having evolved from primates on their world or something similar? I don't recall the source. Just an earlier post I seem to recall. In which case, they can be expected to be more human than Turian or Salarian. But then there are the the digits.

Bioware answer:  "The conditions on Rannoch were...  Whatever it would take to evolve in a similar path to humans...  Phew, that was a close one :?"

It would largely depend on what sort of creature they were descended from on an evolutionary basis. Humanity, ofr example, has body hair as a throwback to our ancestors that required thicker hair/fur to survive the environments.

If there was no Ice age like event to require that sort of evolution, then hair would likely not be present on the creature. Examples: turians, salarians. During their evolution, hair was unnecessary or counterproductive.

Unfortunately, we have too little information available to create a valid, evidence based theory from speculation. We know that Rannoch had avery different way of transmitting diseases and pollens/pathogens. And that it is more arid than earth. We do not know if quarians are descended from predators (though given their body shape, this is a viable if unsupported conclusion); we do not know what actual environment spawned them. Temperate, Tropical? Land based? Water based (since it is more arid, water locations would be more important)?

We simply do not have the information to reach non-speculative conclusions.

Of course, we can speculate all we want. And fill in the blanks as fic writers (I'm looking at you, Buddha and Cal. Glaring at you, Red!) with our favorite theories. I know I do. Because let's face it - quarians are fascinating, Tali especially, and it is fun to speculate!

Yeah, probably so.

Wouldn't want to encourage people to rip a even bigger hole in their background stories and codex entries.Posted Image

None of the aliens in Mass Effect make any sense if you read too much into them (especially the asari)

Is Tali a particularly tall Quarian? I recall the ME wiki saying that Quarians are typically shorter and of slighter build than humans, but a lot of the pics (like the foot-fetishy one above) show her as just as tall if not an inch or so taller than Shepard. Or is Shepard just a little shrimpy? Hmmmm....

Why would they have descended from predators?

With shins like that (but more importantly, the balls of their feet being connected directly to them) they seem to be more fit for leaping; sure, this is something ambush predators tend to do, but not all mammals with the balls of their feet connected directly to their shins are ambush predators.
That's not to say Tali would be hopping around like a kangaroo, clearly she runs similairly to humans (though it looks a bit awkward when she does it, not exactly graceful), so perhaps there has been some sort of change to that matter of propulsion over time. (Much like our feet evolved to become more stable, rather than versatile)
