I think the discussion just died, since neither ncknck nor EvilGod have registered their games.

Last Darkness, each point of defense increases your chance to dodge by 1%. The reason 100 defense isn't 100% dodge is because defense is compared to attack as follows: attack + 54 - defense = chance to hit. So if I have an attack of 100 and you have a defense of 100, that gives me a 54% chance to hit you. If you lose 18 defense, now I have a 72% chance to hit you.

In practice, it doesn't work out quite like that because % dodge items are calculated first, but that's the basic idea.

Edit:  I'll add that it's nonsense to argue that trading 18 dexterity for the ability to wear heavy armor is a bad trade.  If that were true, wouln't sword and board warriors wear light armor, wield a dagger, and just pump dexterity?  It shouldn't take math to show anyone that raising strength high enough to wear heavier armor is worth it if you're going for mitigation.  It *can* be argued that you're sacrificing other things, but saying that 18 defense is more valuable than heavy armor is just rubbish.

If any newer players were wondering about the math, armor is more valuable than defense, point for point.  If we assume an "average" hit deals 30 damage, each additional point of armor mitigates 3% of that.  Each additional point of defense only mitigates 1% (on average, via chance to evade attacks).  Of course, the value of armor varies based on how hard enemies are hitting, but overall it's very valuable as a damage mitigation stat.

heh! About this Agro stuff....

Lil and three magi go into a keep to rescue someone. At some point, the three magi combine their spells to create Storm of the Century to eliminate most of one very large group. However, one survivor with a very large 2H sword angrily runs down the hall, passes all three mages tossing various spells, and starts to dice poor Lil while wearing her nice "Light" stealthy armor.

Lil lived thanks to some alternating Force Shields, but at least while on NM settings, I advise against complacency about others getting all the attention.

^^ Sounds like a fun party setup! Three mages and an archer.  Never tried that setup.

No, I'm not buying that.  That's not the way things happen in this game.  Offensive spells  draw  aggro, remember?.  And a surviving victim of Storm of the Century *inevidably* goes after the mage[s] who cast it, NOT the archer in light armor who is behind them..  (well, unless  your Lilianna just fired off an AoS... in which case,  you probably shouldn't be calling her "poor  Lil"  lol)

Edit: but to get back on topic:  As a general rule, I *always* make my Warriors wear heavy  armor.   There's no real reason for a warrior archer not to.  There's enough attribute points in  DA:O  to get your strength up to 38  (with or without stat boosting gear), and still have enough to get your Dex into the 60s, which is more than enough  to consistantly hit anyone with your arrows

As best as I recall, Warden cast Glyph of Repulsion to seal the doorway, and Wynne tossed earthquake to slow any pursuit. Morrigan cast Blizzard while the Warden cast Spell Might, then Tempest, allowing Morrigan to cast another Glyph. The warden was also in light armor; other mages in robes. And Lil does have AoS on her dial for Elites or higher, plus Scattershots.

All I recall was snickering at the situation while feeling rather ignored at the same time.....

I encountered a similar situation on my first mage game when a pack ran past my tank and mage in order to attack Lil who (at that time) was doing nothing but just standing at the back… I think some mods may be scripted to prioritise some classes?

Perhaps these NPC's are members of her growing Fan Club.... Image IPB
