I never see the Illusive Man change his outfit so he is certainly sacrificing.

Maybe he just has a closet full of the same outfit, and it isn't like he does any heavy lifting during the game lol.

Don't kid yourself.

Smoking all those cigars is a real pain.

I would say a pain in the ass but TIM's ass is numb because he almost never gets out of that damn chair.

I'd love to force him to do track and field.

Actually he stands up quite a bit when he's talking to you.

I know.

But between missions what do you think he does? Dance?

Well maybe. We don't really see that much of TIM. Lord knows what he does in his freetime.

In ME3 if you attack TIM's base, he'll start running when you come into his room only to stop a few feet away coughing.

He does volunteer work talking to disadvantaged kids and convincing them to say no to tobacco.

I love how people like to justify Cerberus by saying "They're doing it for humanity!" They don't seem to get the whole racism theme. For the slow: Replace HUMANS with WHITE PEOPLE. Replace TURIANS, SALARIANS, and ASARI as ARABS, ASIANS, and BLACK PEOPLE. Get it now? Yay, Earth first! No.

Ah yes. "Racism". We have dismissed this claim.

Humans = All one species.

Humans and Aliens = Not one species.

For you slow people . . . replace Humans with . . . well . . . HUMANS and replace Aliens with CUTTLEFISH. Get it now?

edit: I would like for it to be known that I adore cuttlefish, and not for eating. They're just so darn cute.

Actually I see what Anezay means.

If anything, the Reapers show us that we're all one people fighting to survive. Fighting for the right to exist.

If some huge threat struck Earth suddenly, it would unify us all as simply Earthlings. We need to protect everybody.

For the slow: races on Earth are all the same. The differences between white people and black people are ENTIRELY superficial and this can be proven scientifically. Alien species are not all the same. I know various sci fi franchises like Star Trek like to use alien species as a metaphor for race on Earth, but it is a clumsy and terrible one. We just don't see enough generous Ferengi, illogical Vulcans, peaceful Klingons or (to bring this back to Mass Effect) gentle Krogans, nice Vorcha, sympathetic Batarians etc etc to suggest that "we are all the same except for our culture", especially when our genetic differences are so obvious. It also doesn't make any sense from a genetic standpoint to think that humans and Hanhar, for instance, could have such fundamental genetic differences but that they would all be superficial and that deep down they would basically be the same.

Now I do believe that in Mass Effect we should all work together as a galaxy. But I strongly disagree with equating real life racism to looking out for the interests of a species. To simply this as much as possible: in real life, we are all the same except for all culture and appearance, so it makes no sense to favor one race over another. In Scifi, we are presented with different species that have fundamental differences at the genetic level, and these are often portrayed in simplistic "bad species" (Vorcha, Batarians, etc) and "good species" (Asari, Salarians whatever). The two are just not analogous.

And no, I'm not arguing that Shepard should put humanity first at the expense of everyone else. But I am arguing with using a simple analogy that really doesn't fit.

The racism in Mass Effect is usually a form of nationalism, not bigotry.

The metaphor may be clumsy, but it's there nonetheless. It's kind of a big deal. They appear to make a point of looking beyond genes to the people themselves. If genes were everything, Miranda would be more likable than she is, which is at around the same level as a chinese crested dog wearing a **** ss uniform. Posted Image

To bring this back OT, Cerberus's operations aren't even that useful for humanity. Great job killing all those dudes with Thresher Maws. Now, how does this help us? Let's compare this list of unambiguously evil operations with a list of successful and beneficial Cerberus operations.

I think I agree with this; however, our sample size of Cerberus
activities is incredibly biased. In ME1 we followed a trail of Cerberus
experiments that had run amuck. We're never going to be sent on a
mission thats objective is: "Visit this Cerberus cell and notice how
they are performing their experiments in a humane and lawful manner."
We have been the street sweepers following the Cerberus parade sweeping
up the horse s***. Because we never see the actual parade we think,
"wow, all that results from Cerberus is piles of horse s***."

Exactly. Although, now that you're a part of Cerberus (kinda) you'd think you'd see a bit more of their successes. Instead, every eight minutes TIM sends me an e-mail about how some other Cerberus operative is totally ****ed and needs my help. The only successful Cerberus operation (outside of Lasuras Cell, everything is successful when the camera is pointed at you) is briefly mentioned in the arc projector aquisition e-mail. Essentially, it says "This gun killed some geth good. The dudes were amazed that they didn't actually die, and are now on vacation for not dying. Enjoy their gun."

Also, the only time we see Cerberus activities in ME1 are when we are killing them and blowing up their bases. We have no way of knowing what knowledge or results those experiments produced. The most common example is the admitedly totally heinous Thresher Maw experiments. But as I said, we have no idea of knowing what that experiment produced. It's not like Toombs would have been able to tell us. Thresher Maws are pretty much the most powerful creatures in the galaxy-- their spores can survive in a vacuum, they can survive in any environment, they can spit acid, they hides are ridiculously tough, etc etc. For all we know they have regenerative cells that were studied in that experiment and used in Project Lazarus. Just because we don't know the results of a top secret experiment doesn't mean we should assume there weren't any.

Then why lure the soldiers to the maw to be killed instead of luring the thresher out to be captured? Is it that that plan makes too much sense? That it would be too helpful to have the whole animal? It's like they were being intentionally evil.

Whatever it was, I doubt they needed to send off a marine unit to get chopped up by a giant hungry space worm to observe it. Maybe they were just bored.
