Based on what i ve read so far (forums, dao wiki, previews, etc.),people have connected the Dragon age logo with their warden's story. On the other hand,BW is trying to introduce us the world of Dragon age and their huge effort to create a world from scratch.

DA2 (according to DA wiki) will introduce us "a more combat oriented, cinematic experience" of Hawke, "a penniless human refugee who rises to power to become the single most important character in the world of Dragon Age"!

Therefore, allow me to assume that if BW told the story of Hawke through an expansion pack or maybe a title as DA:Legends, a lot of misunderstanding might have been avoided.

However, having in mind the short time it took to create DA2, i find it to be a nice and interesting prequel story to a more "mature" DA3,which i hope will tell the tale of Morrigan's god-child

You warden's story is over, what they meant by it's not over yet is that they'll still be making DLCs for origins along the way of developing DA2, and they said it lots of times, they want to explore Thedas, the world of Dragon Age is not about Ferelden, Orlais or our wardens, it's the story of Thedas as a continent and they want to explore as much of it as possible.

Expansion? Why?

I think the word you are looking for is spin-off.

it's a brand new story with brand new characters (and some familiar faces) using a vastly improved (or at least we hope so) interface

I'm curious exactly how all this screams "expansion" instead of "sequel"

traditionally expansions use the same game with an extension of the same story or a new story strongly connected to the old

Dragon Age Origins: Your Wardens story

Dragon Age 2: Hawkes story

Dragon Age 3: Another characters story

Easy to understand really

Perhaps the Title should of been The Chronicles of Thedas: Dragon Age:Origins etc :)

Isn't Dragon Age generic enough - it clearly shows that the games are going to be about the world of Thedas in the Dragon Age. Nowhere does it say anything such as Warden's Story: Part I etc.

I'm not sure what makes DA2 unworthy of being a sequel in the franchise. A similer example is TES4: it takes place with a completely different story and characters to TES3 but is in the same world and is still a sequel. For that matter all of the Elder Scrolls games are almost completely different but they have a common idea running through them. In Dragon Age's case this is the self explanatory Dragon Age not the Warden.

Its not unworthy to carry the title DA2,quite the opposite, but it seems like a lot of people have strongly connected the title of the game, with their warden's story for some reason. However i would prefer the title to be DA:legends for example, rather than a simple DA2.

An expansion and a neverending Warden story in which the Warden does something new every year and ends up happily ever after with Morrigan or Alistair raising babies--that seems to be the desire of many. It confuses me no end. Do they really want to see everything up to and including the Calling play out? Voila, the end of the series can be the Deep Roads again, with a whole new host of darkspawn to kill or cure, and your precious Warden, from whom some people cannot move on, can be white-haired and sad. We can watch them walk into their grave after 10 Dragon Age games and 20 expansions all about him or her, all because some people decided against all reason that by "Dragon Age" the developers meant "Warden Age" and were bound by blood oath to make all future content for that character alone.

There's only so much the Warden can do, silently and eerily staring, before it becomes a little ridiculous that one person keeps being so much more awesome than anyone else. I thought the Warden's adventures were sufficiently awesome and interesting even before Awakening. You quelled the Blight, killed the Archdemon, and then possibly removed the need to ever suffer the curse of being a Warden again by curing the darkspawn's insanity. One more expansion might be nice, but really, just one expansion, not a full game and not more than one, and only if they have a really good idea for it. I wouldn't want DA2 to be about the Warden, not even slightly. Hell, I don't even want to be fighting darkspawn forever. I don't want to drag this out. ENOUGH already. Other people and threats are important, too. I don't want to become a Warden Sue and spoil my memories of the first game.

I want the writers to always have the freedom to say, "this is wrapped up. We told this story, everything interesting about it has played out. Time to see what else can happen on Thedas." I'm glad they seem to feel the same, and I am glad to see that DA2 won't just be a glorified expansion pack for the Warden, but a truly new game with a new protagonist and story.

This. Besides which, without the Warden being tied to anything like ending the Blight, it would be impossible to create a sequel, let alone multiple sequels, that 'fit' every single Warden personality out there and would please everybody. Some people want to go after Morrigan. Some people don't care about Morrigan. Some Wardens are dead -- I could go on. I didn't import a character into Awakenings because I didn't feel like any of my Wardens would actually be interested in being Warden-Commander. Before DA2 was announced I was worried that I'd have to choose between importing my Warden into a situation that seemed out-of-character or rolling a new character and losing all the benefits of importing choices etc. I'm very happy they've decided to start again with a new protagonist while keeping the option to import saves.

Oh, that's hilarious. It's the title of a video game, it can call itself whatever it wants.

And this is precisely why making DA2 a continuation of DA:O would have been a dick move on BioWare's part.  A lot of Wardens undertook the ultimate sacrifice.  And before anyone brings up Mass Effect 2, there's a fundamental difference.  The ME series is Shepard's story.  Has been since day one.  And really, the only way you can get Shep killed in the suicide mission is on purpose.  You have to be actively trying to do that badly.  In DA:O, there is an extremely legitimate reason for killing off the Warden, and it doesn't require you having the idiot ball glued to your face like it does in ME2.

The problem is that for wardens who survived they have had no consequences for their actions, and look like they never will. There was a good idea for a story in this, not a series though. Also, writers really can't say that things are wrapped up when they aren't.

"Your Wardens story is over" Ah but when is a Warden no longer a Warden? ( when they're making Da2 with Hawke as main PC!)
