they've been working on da2 a lot longer than since they revealed it. some of the devs were expressing how happy they were to be able to talk about da2 after being quiet for so long. i get the impression that da2 development started late last year sometime during or just after console porting finished. i could be wrong, but that's how it has seemed to me.Arttis wrote...

yes, but it doesn't look like they spent as much time on DA2 as they did on oblivion, now if they were to release it in 2012 im sure it'd be better
true DA2 almost seems rushed
Sorry, but I roll my eyes at thee. Seeing an alpha test video with a handful of character models, PLACEHOLDERS at that, and about 10 screenshots and you say that "DA2 seems rushed" ?
Also they are hiding much from us.
Will DA2 be short? (based on the GI article)

Think of it as an exciting career as a double agent, and enjoy.
I am already a PC elitist whiner and a casual dumb console gamer. Your right it's very exciting. I get to complain about everything!
I think what used to be called a difference of opinion, is now whining if you are on the other side.

Funny, I don't remember Baldur's Gate 2 looking like that, being that it's a 2000 game.

Need I say that the differences are obvious?
Why don't you post a comparison of the character models?

Give me a hint here honcho. You seem to be convinced that you're not just some supercilious internet twerp impressed with your own non-existent powers of cognizance. What possible relevance does that post have to do with the topic at hand and, by the way, why shouldn't it be taken at face value as nothing but senseless trolling for effect? Come on d-bag, let's double down on this sh!t.

Erm, question, not meaning to be offensive, but what exactly are you going on about? A troll said 'you and the other pc whiners feel that way', and all of the sudden you are bashing another poster altogether?

"Origins is very large. There’s no way you could make a game that huge that is as baroquely and finely detailed as Gears of War, say."
Based on the details of the graphics so far, it means that DA2 will be much shorter than DA:O, if what they wrote is true. It does make sence since ME2 was shorter than ME1 but better graphics (if this is a valid logical assumption). Also including the fact that now main char has VO, costs and HD space will also effect the length.
Please post your thoughts about it, and (hopefully) prove my point wrong. But lets keep complaining about the length of it outside this thread.
I think you are interpreting that in the exact opposite way I would. I didn't read the whole thread, sorry, so someone may have discussed it. But that was a topic about DA2's graphic style, and how they are moving toward a stylized style. They said that Origins was large and couldn't use a detailed style like Gears. If they were then saying they would use a detailed style in DA2, it would make sense to infer that DA2 would be short. But they said they were going stylized instead of hyperrealistic, so the implication is that that is because it is a long game.

Meh... all thats saying is that the days of epic and long single player, story driven RPGs like Origins is dead. BioWare seems to have it established that about 30-40 hours is as long as they'll make games now. Origins lasted me about 80 hours on its first run and Awakening about 15.
Ideally, DA2 would be just as long as Origins but if it was 60 hours or so, that would be good. The problem is that if the game is too short, it takes away that epic feeling for me- it would be like condensing the Lord of the RIngs into a 100 page book.
And given the whole 10 year time span now with DA2, I'm worried the whole narrative is going to feel terribly rushed. I had that problem with Awakening- some said it was just briskly paced, but too often when I wanted to linger and explore, the game kept pushing you forward whether you wanted to or not. There is a fine line between good pacing and having the narrative shoved down your throat. In an RPG spanning a decade, I want to take my sweet time and explore and chat up party members without getting forced into the final battle without even having the chance to talk to the last guy I just recruited.

I am fairly certain there was another magazine that said that DA2 would be longer than Awakening but have more depth than DA:O. That basically, to me, means that it will be shorter, but not have as much filler content as Origins had.

I might get flamed for this, but I think that Origins had some fat that should have been trimmed. It felt too long in places like The Deep Roads because all you're doing is fighting waves after waves of repetitive enemies. It's very long and it lacks the depth and options of a quest like Redcliffe. In retrospect, I feel it would have been better if they removed some parts of the dungeon crawl (making Jarvia's hideout shorter, removing some of the Deep Roads areas) here and maybe fleshed out the Bhelen/Harrowmont conflict better.
I think Origins would have benefited from being maybe ten or fifteen hours shorter, if only by getting rid of some of the repetitive combat encounters, especially in Orzammar / The Fade. For reference, my first playthrough took me around 65 - 70 hours, but other peole's experiences might differ.
A shorter game might make it easier to make quests with more solutions / consequences to them. I'd rather have a short, tightly constructed game than a long game with plenty of filler in between.
Seconded. Only I would add that I love side questing as a way to bulk up a game beyond its main narrative.
