I am up to the climax, on The Final Battle quest. I just killed the Darkspawn General in the alienage and saved. I had already killed the one in the market. If I go to the quest tab it says under The Final Battle that I have killed both generals, which I have. When I leave the alienage the cutscene where the dragon destroys the bridge plays. Then on the map I can only go from the alienage to the market or palace districts.
I went to the palace district, did the battle with the rest of my team, and then killed all the darkspawn at the palace. At this point though I notice that under The Final Battle quest it now says that I still killed the darkspawn in the alienage, but the other bullet point says "The market has been overrun with darkspawn but they are all gone now. Perhaps the general will show up later." And it still won't let me go to Fort Drakon. When I go to the market, of course, the general doesn't show up, because I already killed him.
I reloaded my last save in the alienage, and the quest text is still correct, but as soon as I go anywhere other than the alienage, the text changes back to the above.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any way I can get out of this? If I wait around long enough will the general respawn? It is very frustrating to be stuck at the very end of the game like this.

Really weird, especialy that the quest info would update to say something like you killed all the darkspawn except the general.

Update: I loaded a previous save and killed the general in the alienage first and then the one in the market, and now when I get to the skirmish the quest tab says I killed the one in the market but not the alienage. I will be incredibly annoyed if there really is no way to progress.

Update again: I loaded the old save, killed the general at the alienage, and went straight to the palace district to see what would happen. The quest tab still said I killed the one in the alienage, and that the general at the market "would show up later". I killed the enemies in the palace and then went back to the market.
The general did indeed show up, but I was never prompted to summon an army to fight him. After a few tries I managed to kill the general and ogres without the help of the army, after which the quest tab said I had killed both generals. But, of course, after that it wouldn't let me go anywhere other than back to the palace district, and when I got there it said the general in the alienage would show up later.
It seems unlikely at this point, but does anybody have any possible ideas on what to do to avoid this? I still have a save file before the point of no return, as well as before and after killing the first general in the alienage. I have no idea what I could have done to screw up my game so badly, but I really hope there is a way to fix it. This is pretty much past annoying to infuriating at the moment.

I got the same text message about one general still being alive somewhere on my last playthrough although I killed them both, but it didn't stop me from progressing to end game, so I kind of ignored it . . . I'm not sure what to suggest to you . . . are you passed the point where you command the companions in defending the gate?

Haha, OK, turns out I'm an idiot...I totally missed every time that there was another set of enemies to fight in the palace...somehow I missed the two paths around to the back where the tripwire is. Thanks for your help.

Just for the record, though, there is an actual bug in here...when I went straight from the alienage to the palace district, and then went back to the market, it never let me call an army to help me fight the general. Obviously this isn't game breaking, since I was able to beat him eventually, but it does seem like an actual glitch.
