I felt rather thrilled about Qunari in DAO, I loved their culture and their views. The fact that they looked like humans, is something I liked also because it was saying that you don't have to throw in mystical creatures or anything to make something different. Just seeing what they did, made me think that they wanted to imply that just because Qun followers may look like humans, they are fully separate and I liked how they weren't made to look different. Now I must admit that the natural horned Quinari fit how you'd view tribal people crafting weapons specifically for one person to keep a hold of and using statues and totems as a way of gifts and decoration. Though when it comes to what Sten says about every Qun having a place in their society, I don't see how this works.

I am excited about the looks and hope to see a Quinari that looks like Sten and one of the newly introduced standing and conversating. So far all the Quinari we have seen have a stale, blank voice. Sten came directly from his homeland and I can't see horned, feral looking Qun with that kind of voice. My hopes are high that DA2 explains a lot more about this shift.

For me it seems like we are making a universe switch, but hell, this also explains why the Ogres are horned to begin with.

I happen to really like the change. It made absolutely no sense why the Ogre looked like they did if they were qunari darkspawn. They looked nothing like Sten, whereas genlocks and hurlocks looked at least similar to humans and dwarves. Shrieks were equally nonsensical, so to hear that the elves were redesigned IMO at least might allow for some in-universe consistency.

I hate the fact that Bioware wants to give an "in-game" reason for the change, if true. These are stupid, like the ME2 ammo thing. Just recognize you flopped with the design in the first game, and retcon it. Simple.

To be fair, it was mentioned in the first game that they do have horns.

They look cool with the horns, but it just seems too over-the-top for me. The model they gave us looks like Kratos, though lol.

Where? I don't see it in the Qunari or Par Vollen codex entries. The first time I saw it mentioned officially was in the Timeline of Thedas article.

edit: that's not to say I don't believe you. I'd just like to know, for future reference. I've seen it brought up before.

I could have sworn there was a codex entry somewhere that stated it, but most people thought they were referring their helmets, or some such. I could be wrong though.

I think the biggest clue was that Ogres have horns.

So how do we explain the differences the other Darkspawn have to their counterparts?
