Anyone else looking for 6 person party?

I know it would get crowded in this game, but I was reminiscing all the way back to 1980’s in Wizardy. Three front line fighters, a thief, a mage, and a priest. I kind of enjoyed it, allowing one to "hold the line".
Bioware cut it to four by simply combining mage and priest and just dumping a warrior. Do you think it could have been done with six people? Would it have been too much?

I think 5 would be perfect though; one more group slot would at least allow you to use more characters and have some more options. 5 slots would allow you to fulfill your standard tank/heals/dps roles but also devote a character entirely to debuffs or ranged dps or whatever else you decided you wanted to experiment with.
It seems like only having 4 slots limits the amount of group dialogue you get to hear also - and how interested are you going to be in following the plotline of a character who you never play?

For example my current setup is Shale (tank), Sten (tank), Wynne (healer), Direman (me, Mage DPS). I have yet to even use a Rogue or true DPS Warrior in my group, which gives me incentive to play again once I'm done with my Mage.
I'll playing on Hard right now, next run-through I'll try a Rogue on Easy or Normal - just to see the different origin and party style. I have a feeling on Easy or Normal I can get away with only one tank and have more diversity in my party makeup.

IMO the game needs a few more challenging single-target non-boss fights.tkaz85 wrote...
Depends. Do you like fighting 12+ enemies at once in every single encounter? Because my guess is that to compensate for the two additional party members they would have had to at least double the number of enemies faced per encounter.
Fighting enemies that outnumber you 3 or 4 to 1 feels cheesy in a game that allows for flanking and 'tactics' imo.
I'd personally like to see more bigass single dragons/demons/undead
monsters/whatever. It seems to give more of an epic feel than a
zillion smaller mobs vs 4 people. <_<
Engaging 767823648723 targets at once isn't always fun; it reminds me of MMO boss fights with adds - AoE FTW. Bleh.

I disagree with this assessment.

Seriously! Did they even watch the kill animations when your warrior ran up the front of an Ogre, or when your rogue rode a dragon to stab it in the head? Those DESERVE to be showcased in really spectacular fashion! They're incredible!
Boss fights that are 1 BAMF + 2 or 3 assistants is ideal in my eyes - boss fights that are just swarms of terror, not quite so exciting.

In MMOs, it works great - despite the fact that a single person isn't controlling every character. In a single-player game, it could work even better. For some, the new tactical possibilities of 1 or 2 more group members is actually the appeal.SuSuSudio wrote...
I can't imagine the tactical headaches a 6-man party would demand, though, I never got into the MMOs that make you do that kind of stuff and think it'd be a really demanding concept.

So far I'm seeing way to many characters I want to bring, that I want to sink XP into, and far too little chance to bring them along. I mean seriously who doesn’t want to bring the puppy!
I actually restarted and switched my main to a rouge just to be able to drop one redundant character in favor of another viable tank.
But most of all I know I’m not going to be happy to have to drop my main spell caster for a healer and I know it’s not far off.

I love the Dog - he's fun, he's cute, he adds flavor and is supposed to be a faithful companion but he overall doesn't compare to a fully developed NPC.
While adding an extra NPC slot permanently would be nice, I think at least considering allowing the dog to always be present + 4 member party would be alot of fun.

But in subsequent playing of the game, I'd like maybe to have an unlimited party size. (In NWN2, that is the ONLY way I play through the base game now.)

My sentiments exactly! I think 4.5 slots would work out just fine.crackseed wrote...
My suggestion was a compromise. Keep it at 4 slots for NPCs - but always allow the Dog in the party.

Yeah that would be great!
As it is while I'd like to take the Dog around more but I'd just much rather have an NPC I can talk to and learn their backstory etc. or in Morrigan's case to complain about the quests I take...
So... "I'm sorry but Stay Ser Gnawly." (and yes the hound is knighted)
