Interestingly enough, none of the conversations I've heard involve more than 2 characters. Shame, really.grifflyman007 wrote...
I would love to see a 5 or 6 party group, just like the old days of BG2
Can you imagin some of the coversations the party could have?

Depends. Do you like fighting 12+ enemies at once in every single encounter? Because my guess is that to compensate for the two additional party members they would have had to at least double the number of enemies faced per encounter.
Wait a minute. You don;t get that many everytime you pull anyway? Pretty much 80% of all my encounters on hard mode are that many or more.

And I miss designing your entire party as well.
But I like the Kotor/Mass Effect/Dragon Age style, too.
Just don't go back to Jade Empire's half-dozen party members to choose from but only 1 can be with you at any given time.

I think 5 wound be a good number. 2 tanks 2dps and a healer.
There aren't really healers. There are mages who have some healing abilities, but most of what they do will still be DPS. If you're just using a character to heal and not even letting them do staff damage, then you aren't using a character to even half their potential since healing spells all have such long cooldowns.
Tanks also in this game are able to do decent DPS.
This is not a MMORPG where such roles are so well defined.

My suggestion was a compromise. Keep it at 4 slots for NPCs - but always allow the Dog in the party.
I love the Dog - he's fun, he's cute, he adds flavor and is supposed to be a faithful companion but he overall doesn't compare to a fully developed NPC.
While adding an extra NPC slot permanently would be nice, I think at least considering allowing the dog to always be present + 4 member party would be alot of fun.
Yeah the dog does seem underpowered in many encounters. He should gain talent pts just as quickly as everyone else and have more abilities. I don't understand why the gave him a meager 2 rows

You can keep the story, keep the background, keep the character personalities - just let ME decide how and where to allocate their skills and talents.

I've never liked the KotOR introduced
systems of conveniently hand picking whoever you'd think would be
useful for the next quest from a pool.
much, what i DO mind is potentially missing out on story arcs or extra
scenes because a specific character isnt with you, especially
considering you really have so few choices for a viable froup in DOA.

I would be happy with 5. It would allow me to have a "flavor" character while the other 4 spots fill out the "needed" roles.
Heh exactly my feelings. I am going to miss out on the exchanges between Li and Morgana because I don't have a spot for the rogue since her damage is meh compared to Morgana and myself. I guess I could go Spirit Healer to get her into the party if I really wished but I bore of healing, heh.

Well, that's that "I don't want to miss anything" compulsion. I push away such feelings
by instinct, since I believe it makes the game experience less enjoyable. It's a sort of power gaming, I think.
I'd hate to do that since I'm mainly interested in experiencing an immersive adventure.
Also, I'd expect a game to provide different paths, so it might not even be possible.
DA is kinda designed that you will be bound to play the game several times as different characters anyway,
so there's not even any need.
But also, yes, you're right, but that's also the difference between having 4 or 6 party members.
I'm not suggesting being limited to 4 static partners would be fun.

That being said, are they necessary? Certainly not as the game is built now. But for gameplay reasons, I know I enjoyed the larger party in BG2, for example.

I probably designed the tank Alistair wrong and will do a better job on my second play through however.

Yes, that's how BG2 SoA was, 6 person party is classic
4 person party is "3D so the engine can't do 6"
another EQOA for PS2 idea that has been lifted by other RPGs.

It's really about cutting costs, time, framerate,etc...
But oh how I miss BG2 crazy epic battles

Is there anywhere to start casting votes for this in the sequel?
