First off this had to work on consoles, so you can't put too many people in there. If it were just on PC then it would be great to have more. Someone said more good guys more bad guys. Not so! Just better, strong and bigger bad guys like in every old role playing game of the last 30 years. This is dumb downed for the consoles. I'm almost 50 years old. Almost played every role playing game they made for computers. Gaming is being devolutioned for the mass. Get use to it.

My suggestion was a compromise. Keep it at 4 slots for NPCs - but always allow the Dog in the party.

I love the Dog - he's fun, he's cute, he adds flavor and is supposed to be a faithful companion but he overall doesn't compare to a fully developed NPC.

While adding an extra NPC slot permanently would be nice, I think at least considering allowing the dog to always be present + 4 member party would be alot of fun.

I love this suggestion. I'm quite content with a 4 person party but having Dog along as a 5th would just up the fun level.

After peeking into the toolset i see they place a marker where the party members should stand during dialog and there are only 4 of them, where would the other 2 stand?
so from that point they wouldn't be present during dialog speeches.
*Spoilers*
What about during the Circle of Magi part in the fade ey?

Is there not a developer post from pre-launch somewhere that explains the 4 member party system decision? I don't know, but I find it hard to believe that it hasn't been discussed ad nauseum prior to release. Some longtimer please post?

Obviously the game could have been developed for a 6+ party system. Maybe 4 people made it more of a focused RPG in the vision of what the devs wanted?

My own feeling is that the number of people in the party really doesn't have much, if anything, to do with the quality of the game or the storytelling RPG element of it. Yeah, I understand the nostalgia of the 6 man party and the typical front line/rear line gameplay and if the game was bad because it changed from 6 to4 man parties, then I would agree.

But, the game is really very well done. So much so that the change from 6 to 4 in this "spiritual successor" frankly doesn't even make me blink.

This was my biggest disappointment when first learning about DA. 6 people feels like a true "party" of adventurers. It doesn't feel artifically limiting like 4 does. As it stands, you almost have to have 1 of each class, which just leaves 1 actual choice slot & even that gets filled automatically during certain quests.

If nothing else, 4+Dog is a great idea. I can't justify bringing Dog along as it is.
