So I remember awhile
back that NWN2 was coming to Steam... I bought Mass Effect 1 & 2 on steam
plus all my dragon age content including the expansion. Steam is undeniably the
future of game distribution, but now I can find nothing of this release anywhere...
I want to re-buy NWN2 on steam so I can have the amazing mobility it
offers.
What's the deal? Is it still happening?
I am confused

NWN2 never went to steam. The reasons were never really given, so I cannot say why.
I imagine the game isn't listed on the social site as it's an Obsidian game rather than a Bioware one. It could be an oversight, however.
NWN2 is not dead. Check out the modules section. There's at least 5 long time projects I can think off right now that are nearing release. And who knows what else might show up later this year. ;p

Gamersgate is superior to Steam. So many problems with Steam and older games. You can't even install outside the system path. No Steam folders to hassle with, etc. No worries to get all expansions from Steam if you have a hardcopy from the original, etc.

NWN2 is not dead. Neither is NWN. Both have strong communities surrounding them.
Join up... you'll not be sorry and the cost is seriously minimal for the hours of enjoyment you'll get out of the game(s).

NWN2 is not as readily available from retailers as it once was, but the community is not dead, as has been said already. Two different things.
I believe Atari still sells a digital version of NWN2 that you can purchase and download.

Steam is a game distribution system by Valve: http://store.steampowered.com/
I use it and I like it, in general. There are some lingering philosophical issues about it--outages, etc--so your mileage may vary.

I agree. Tech support at Gamersgate changed my mind ... they went way out of their way to help.

Steam can only work if you have a internet connection activ. For game like nwn2 that can be played without internet, steam is a crappy option.

That's actually not true at all while I am not saying anything good or bad about steam you can disable its internet connection on start-up (last I checked) and play games off-line.
EDIT: Well I tried to find this option to disable automatic online connectivity but couldn't find it. Nonetheless I also disabled my internet connection and fired up my single player games which launched without any problems even when an online connection is lacking. I don't really have any multi-player games to test but I gather if they have a single player mode you'd still be able to play it.

No, Steam has an offline mode, connection is needed only for downloading the game & activating it, like in every online digital distribution.

WOTC bringing the hammer down on Atari prolly has a lot to do with why NWN2 is kinda hard to find now a days. But then you dont see any older dnd games on gog either...so..(a lot of them were a blast and I'd buy them with the gog upgrade in a heartbeat)
