How do you edit a creature's idle animations in the area editor?

I edited the Orzammar chantry and put Teli in there, and I want to make it so she is kneeling, like praying... but how do I do it?

Also, why can't I edit any creature's Variables table? If I try to click on any of the values it doesn't work and I can't change any of them!

What you want is called "ambient behavior" in Dragon Age. It controls the animations and movement of creatures who are not in combat and who are near enough to the player (usually if they're visible, they're near enough).

The good news is that basic stuff is as easy as looking up some numbers and editing the creature's variables table. No scripting required. To edit a creature's variable table, it has to be checked out -- only then is it ready to be edited. I recommend creating a copy of the creature you want, by right clicking and selecting (I think) duplicate resource. You can then choose which module the new creature resource is going in. And it will be editable. Otherwise, you're editing core creatures, which I'm pretty sure is not something you want to do.

Here's an important link about ambient behavior:

But it is not in core game resources, I am using single player module... and the creature's UTC is checked out, but it still will not let me edit anything in the variables table. Even moving it to a diff module did not help, I don't know what I am doing wrong here.

Now where the heck do I get a list of the different ambient animations and their ID numbers??

On that page I linked to, you want to look at the variable:

AMBIENT_ANIM_PATTERN -- that explains how you choose a specific animation. It says there that what you enter references the file ambient ai.xls, which is an Excel file. Look in your program files/dragon age/tools/source/2DA folder and you'll find ambient ai.xls -- that's where all of the excel files which are used to make the game's 2DA's are stored.

If you still haven't got it, I did a couple of posts on my blog on using the two together here and here. Yes, some of it is a repeat of what's on the wiki, but it should give you clear step by step instructions on how to use them to full effectiveness.
