UPDATE v1.6 is out!
================
The latest version of the addin and it's source code is up on the site.

1.6 - Added: Confirmation screen to ensure no accidental character resets can happen.
1.6 - Added: Welcome screen
1.6 - Added: A couple of random RP lines
1.6 - Added: More mysterious Ravens appear all over Ferelden! Keep an eye out for them.

Known Issues v1.6
==============
- If the player cancels the respecialization the potion might become unusable for everyone else but the character that tried to respec. Working on the fix, in the meanwhile just delete the potion and get a new one.

v1.6 source code and 2da overrides are also available: Character Respec Mod v1.6

!!! Considering that the mod fiddles around with your character statistics, I suggest you to make a savegame before trying !!!

As always, feedback is appreciated!

Enjoy

Very cool. For those who do not wish the wade through the techno jargon that is the save game .dds file, this will be great. If however you wish to only change a few things about your character or party member, there are less risky ways to go about it.

This is very unexpected and I can not reproduce it.

Would you mind giving a bit more info?
What class are you trying to use it with? What level? What Spec? What skills :)

Gave it a whirl with Liliana and thought I would add my experiences.

Firstly I couldn't get it to work with the storage chest. Disabling the Camp chest made it appear however so no biggie.

Secondly Liliana while sucessfully respecced was given stat-points comming out her ears, it was quite fun to have her run around as a level 7 duelist with 30 in just about every stat for alittle while but I think I'll revert back. :P

All in all keep up the good work, not sure if it's too anecdotal or if you can salvage something usefull besides a thanks for the fun from the post.

Tried on main character. Mage, lvl 17 specced into Spirithealer, no second spec. The thing is - i have preorder edition so there is one additional skill point (i guess they are reset also?). Maybe thats the issue

Spell - Spirithealer - full. Healing - full. Fire up to Fireball, Crushing prison. full mage tree.

Awesome, cant wait for the source and (hopefully) tutorial? ;)

One problem though. When i increase my stats, they jump up two steps at a time. Goes from 1 to 3 to 5 etc, essentially giving me twice as many skillpoints as i should have :)

You are my hero for doing this.

Few problems I can see.

I wasn't able to use it with Sten or the Dog at all. Not a big problem with the Dog, of course, but Sten should be okay to use it, I think?

More importantly, anyone I used it with got stat points that went far beyond what they should have. My level nine mage, for example, was reduced to one in all stats, and given about 100 points. In addition, each point spent gave two to the stat, so he had, in effect, two hundred stat points to work with. The idea of making a Mage with ~100 in Magic and Willpower is tempting, I admit, but for people that want to play legitimately, it's an issue. :) The same problem with stat points happened to Zevran and Alistair, as well. I didn't try with any of the other companions, but I assume they have the same issue. Talent and Skill points worked out right, though, I believe (if my shaky math skills can be trusted that is).

edit: I also discovered it doesn't work at all if you have the Storage Chest mod enabled. The you-know-what won't show up you-know-where. :innocent: Disabling the chest gets it to show up no problem, though.

So, if I'm reading this correctly, this will reset all of my stats and actually give me extra points? All I'm actually looking to do is reset the talent points so I can redistribute what I've actually earned up to this point. I'm not looking for any extra points anywhere. Will this cause an issue with that?

From what I can tell, you lose specializations on other characters if you respec. Morrigan lost hers at least.  Also, it glitches if you have over 100 points; you cap at 100 points to give among stats, but each point is worth 2 to a stat.

She should have a Spec point, though (assuming she's past level 7). That's how it was for Zevran and Alistair for me, at least.

She can't pick any specialization though, though maybe I have to spec her spells out first or something.  Morrigans the only one I care about since I can mess with her cunning and give her tactics slots and put the point I spent in Heal on something else.

Probably a stupid question, but do you have the mage specs unlocked? If you do then I am out of ideas. I just checked with her and I was able to give her a spec no problem.

I haven't tried it again, but I just saw that her specs were locked even with the specialization point and reloaded. I rarely use her shapeshifting abilities, but that's beside the point.

HMm, lots of errors popping up here.

First of all, the 100 stat point 'error' is not really an error, simply the attribute counter stops at 100.
If you spend the 100 points the rest of them will appear.

Also it should work fine with the collectors edition's extra points, i have CE myself too and have no problems at all.
The double stat and extra specialization errors I have to check out. damn it x:P

What's infuriating about these that you would think I've noticed these (and I'd have be honest :P), I have to find a way to reproduce them.

Well the Morrigan thing happened when she was level 13 and I was outside Orzammar. So the stat thing will be fixed if I get Warden's Keep?

Yeah, that is kind of the problem with a game as in depth as DAO: everything affects everything else. It's hard to make major changes all at once without it potentially affecting more things. IMO, while it would be nice to have a respec(I would prefer an expensive one where you really have to earn the respec), it's much safer to look for the tutorials here on how to change individual things about your character. Say you only want to make Allistair loose unneded skills. it's pretty easy to mod in the toolset.

I wanted to make it expensive and put it on the vendors... if only I could access the merchants somehow.

Quick update: if I install it with the updater it totally goes bollocks for me too. Who would have thought. Sigh.

Is it locked? I mean, did you unlock it in any of your playthroughs? Shapeshifter isn't automatically unlocked just because you're respeccing Morrigan and she was a shapeshifter to begin with.
