So you're suggesting not only that there be a single romance that you're forced to participate in, but that female players are forced to play as a lesbian.

I say no, because I'm still under the impression that Dragon Age is an RPG.

From a gameplay perspective it wouldn't really affect me, since I tend to play guys and romance the girls anyway, if I choose to follow a romance at all. And I would hate to kick up a fuss about forced lesbianism on principle, because I have no problem with same-sex romances, even if I don't have a personal interest in playing as a lesbian.

But if you're making this suggestion purely because you think it would make for a better story, well, why not have the single romance be a male then? As a girl, I'd prefer that.

But yeah, that probably wouldn't sell as well. :P

I would enjoy just having 2 very in-depth romances (1 male/1 female) and I guess some others on the side as a fling for people who don't like the two huge ones. It just seems after you sleep with said romancee, the romance is over.

Now I am not asking for The Sims, where you can pick up a plot of land, build a house, and have a family living off the land. Maybe something included at the ending... The two of you getting married, adventuring in the Deep Roads, creating a thieves guild, etc. Just something to show that you two are sticking together would be great. ;p

What would you think of having a single love interest for Hawke, who was his partner no matter what -- part of the basic plot setup like the main antagonist -- but with a really in-depth storyline that could be taken in many directions.

Are you suggesting you couldn't even opt out of it? The thought of having to romance Leliana, Alistair, Zeveran, Tali, Garrus, Jacob, Ashley, Kaidan etc etc would put me completely off the game.

Yeah, gotta say I wouldn't play it either. 1 single or set romantic partner is fine to me as long as they're side characters. Like a goal (save the princess) or a part of the set-up (oh noes my girlfriend got exploded!) or they just exist and maybe get mentioned but you never have to see them.
But as a major central piece of the story or as a companion, eh, not fun for me. I might play it once just to check it out but I wouldn't buy it. If she was there but I could avoid the romance then maybe but I dunno... Origins kind of spoiled me for romance options ;)

No one character can be likeable in every way and appeal to everyone. It's safest to go with variety.

Morrigan and Leliana together are a good example of trying to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. They're almost polar-oppisite as character archetypes and that's what leaves something to like for everybody.

I had no problem creating my own in-depth romance in DAO. Why do you need only one choice to have depth?

Make them a dwarf and everybody can like them.

I'm of two minds.

One, the more variety the better.

Two, the variety in DAO didn't mean anything if you didn't like any of the options (for the character you prefer to play) that you actually got. In fact, I think Leliana's character was ruined to make her a romance option. (All the potential rough edges had to be sanded away.)

Regardless of romance options (or lack thereof), I will inevitably be drawn to the one man that isn't a LI. But I am very good at delusion roleplaying. ;D

All Bioware has to do is provide the characters (oh yeah and the setting and the plot and the details and such) and I can do the rest. Like in DA:O...I romanced Sten.

I´m for variety. There were girls really hating Alistair (I don´t understand this, but I respect it) and they would be really let down if there was nobody else. I think as in RL there is no person everyone will be interested in.

I wouldn´t be "forced" in a homosexual relationship because I would simply pass it. Probably I would pass the game either.
I don´t mind, if others have the option, but as I´m not homosexual myself it would be nearly as exciting for me as romancing a wall or a door.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that other games go into one big
romance option. One of the major selling points of a BioWare game is the choice. I have no idea why you'd want this to be taken away. Go play a different game if that's the case.

Yes, of course. But then, having only one option is the very worst, since now here's this big plot point and this big person you're supposed to love and you hate them.

In KOTOR you only had Bastilla, and it's probably the best romance BioWare has done

Just one option would be bad, making that option important for the plot even worse.

Just one LI you can do if you have a predefined main character and the player knows right from the start that you are just playing the story of that character (Venetia, the last Ultima game, similar games) even in that case the LI has to be barely present because a permanently present forced LI would be to irritating.

Personally I think that both pace and depth of the DA:O romances were the best in a Bioware game until now,(BG2 might have been better, but that was before the limitations of VO hit the genre and dialog was a lot cheaper)

Really? I'd...completely disagree. I think DAO has handled the romance the absolute best of any game--even if you don't like the people in it. You have a ton of choices and multiple ways to handle them. Even if you liked Bastila best as a person, her romance was flat and linear.

Honestly, if you're going to do romances, I think the way the OP suggests is the only way to do it and have it come off like something real, and not just a fling. Admittedly, I don't really think I've ever seen romance done what I would consider well in a game (with 1 possible exception, and that was of the fixed protagonist/fixed love interest variety.) Admittedly, romance isn't a major concern of mine when it comes to games, however.

Also, Dave...you're suddenly, very, very orange.

No. One lay per game is boring.

People told me "Hey, before you spray paint you car - wear a mask."

I REFUSED.

Too many lays make the game feel cheap though. I've bugged Mass Effect 2 where I've slept with every single romance option and I'm still in a romance with all three, I don't care for any of them.

How about no romances at all, and just deeper and more intricate character interaction otherwise, with Bethany and others?

I know it's too late, since IIRC one of the Doctors already confirmed romances, but still... Posted Image

But then where else would I get my slightly awkward sex scenes involving underwear?
