How about no romances at all, and just deeper and more intricate character interaction otherwise, with Bethany and others?
I know it's too late, since IIRC one of the Doctors already confirmed romances, but still...
But then where else would I get my slightly awkward sex scenes involving underwear?
just one really in-depth romance?

Most of the time, you don't want to, though. *shudders*

In a way, I did like ME romances (2 straight then Liara) while ME2 had more choices but I had difficulty choosing one.
And why would it HAVE to be female? They already said you can play as either gender. If it has to be female I would definately not be interested in the romance one bit.

I'm just curious how other fans would react to this idea. What would you think of having a single love interest for Hawke, who was his partner no matter what -- part of the basic plot setup like the main antagonist -- but with a really in-depth storyline that could be taken in many directions.
Although I'm a fan of male-male romances and one single love interest would almost certainly have to be female, I think it would be a worthwhile tradeoff in having more time and space to really flesh out one character and relationship.
And having one LI would avoid the typing that almost inevitably happens with a menu of different dates -- the Sweet One, the Dark One, the Sassy One, etc. One character could be given time to show all those sides of her personality in turn, and would not have to define herself by a single exaggerated trait.
Would it ****** folks off? Would female players be overly irritated about being forced into homoeroticism?

I would rather there be no romance then only one that is forced and a big part of the storyline. They are already taking away options to make the character yours by limiting choice with race and background, what you are talking about is dangerously close to there being no dialog options at all and simply following the cinematic cutscenes like in final fantasy.
Provided they don't use the words "Fate", "Hope" and "Never give up" - they'll have a lot more dialogue than any of the Final Fantasy games.

They can't create a single character who fits to everybody's taste. It's just impossible.
I say let's keep the the multiple romanceable characters.

With the 10 year span I think they could add much more depth to them with out a whole lot more work. You meet the romancable people early on. Pick your romance. As the story progresses you see the relationship change. Maybe at first it is just some freindly flirting. Next chaper maybe it moves onto something a little more serious. And eventually as ttime progresses it will get more and more intamite. So that after this 10 year span you have a romance that is deep. You are not simply shagging them for the hell of it.
IDK that is what I would like to see. I personally love the romances in the games. That is why I would hate for them to limit it to just one. That was one thing I did not like about ME was that you only had Liara and Ashley, and I really didn't like either on of them too much. In the end I would prefer a shallow romance with a character I really liked than an in depth one with a character I hated.

Multiple romances give people a lot more choice, and add to the depth of the game. Why take that away?
But this ain't your DAO, it is DA2, no choice of races, so most likely no choice in romance.

Much as I like the fact that a game can have inclusive romance options for all (I really do), I miss the more "ruthless" days when authentic Anomen was more important that trying to give the female PC a desirable romance option.
So, yes. They should just make Oghren the only romance option, for male and female PCs, love him or he gets pissed off, taking all of his flashy equipment with him. (Hmm. Perhaps a little far.)

ah you mean how she could be corrupted, I thought you speak about some villain and I was lost whom you talk about as there was no childhood friend turning main villain in any Bioware game... yet
I wonder if this is the fate of Bethany, hmm

Yeah, I would be quite ticked off. No, make that super angry with possibilities of degenerating into face-stabbing rage.
It'd be like having a table full of many different delicious foods, and asking to have them mashed up together in a big bowl. A character who displays all the personality traits of four/six possible LIs? Just think of the aberration that would result if you mashed up together the personalities of Leliana, Morrigan, Alistair and Zevran. People are not like that. They have different traits and behaviors and that's what brings people to like particular things in a person.
Sorry man, but your idea gets kicked off a cliff into a pool full of acid and (acid-proof) sharks.

On topic, depth of character development only really interests me if I'm interested in the character in the first place. I was ticked off at the Garrus romance in ME2 because I love the character of Garrus and thought the romance could have been so much more interesting; on the other hand I really couldn't care less how well-developed the story and character were of, say, Aerie from BGII, as she annoyed the crap out of me, and never ended up in my team to Spellhold.
Thought DA:O did it pretty well - neither feast nor famine, as it were. Someone for everyone. ME2 sacrificed depth for breadth in this regard - though I don't think gay gamers would agree (not ragging on the game, I love ME2), whereas, as far as male LIs were concerned, BGII had the opposite problem - Anomen was probably a really well-developed character, but I just couldn't get past wanting to give him a slap for being so self-righteous (not to mention the bugs ...).
At least in BGII, I could play as a guy and romance one of the two less annoying female LIs. Which I generally did (no longer, thanks to the various IE romance mods out there
Er, sorry for the rambling. I keep doing this.
