so you have something to hold on to. These are two-handed weapons, people.

That's retarded.  The "extra barrel" is on the top on the assault rifle.  And on the sniper rifle, it's far forward of the foregrip.  You'd never hold it by there while firing it, with either weapon.

Pistols have an extra barrel too.

But the two barrel design isnt just on guns.

Check out the large Alliance vessels during the attack on the citadel.

TWO BARRELS

coincidence...I think not...

During the attack on the Citadel, it is clearly shown that the top "barrel" is a torpedo launcher and the bottom barrel is a mass accelerator.

exactly!

so one of them isnt just a large space telescope.

which means the extra barrel on the guns are for something!

But Simpfan, you're comparing infantry weapons to naval weapons...

That's like saying the average Destroyer in today's navy typically has guns with three barrels, therefore all handheld guns should have three barrels too. xD

That can't be right. The "extra barrel" has a smaller bore than the one which fires.

Maybe it's just a cover art fail?

An AA tower on Virmire, for additional wackiness.  The setup is weird, I grant you, but at least they're consistant about it.

Huh, never noticed that one, desala.

Maybe it's just an aesthetic feature of the future, and the cover art's designer just failed at gun barrels.

It could be to stabilize the gun in some cases. Just a guess.

Would be nice if they make it the lower barrel a shotgun like holding barrel. Where all the heat sinks ae stored. and after 6-8 sinks have been used we have to reload them individually... even though each sink still offers as many rounds as usual.

So for example, for the M8. It would hold maybe 6 sinks. Meaning you would fire....240 slugs before having to have a short "shotgun reloading" animation of entering couple slugs into your rifle.

We have dismissed that claim.

Pointedly, though we've gotten off topic talking about all the guns in the universe. The extra 'barrel' we're talking about is the top portion of the Avenger assault rifle. Bear in mind all the weapons have 'gas tube' as well over the barrel, even the Avenger.
