If i understand correctly the main character is Hawke. He is human, so I am pigeonholed into playing a generic character? I really like to play different races, elves etc. Seems like there will be no roam for creativity. Or will there be other choices?

Yes, there is room for creativity. Hawke isn't generic nor pre-defined, you will define him much like your warden, with the exception that Dragon Age 2 is telling a story about humanity and thus a human character fits it better, as said by the developers.

Hawke is Human from a specific background, but beyond that we should have a great deal of leverage in deciding what type of person (s)he is and bringing them to life in interesting ways. In some ways probably a lot like Shepard - though there is no indication you'll be a member of any kind of "special order" - in that you are somewhat limited at character creation, but from there you can decide how they respond, what kind of decisions they make, how they treat others, and generally create the illusion of defined character of your own in your head.

Actually, no, there is no hope of being an elf.

I'm just saying be wary of these "Hawke isn't pre-defined" or "Hawke is a blank slate" etc..

We don't know any of that.  We haven't seen anything about that.  All we have are words from developers and their definition of things may be different than your or mine definition of those things.

Question everything!

I certainly hope its done better than Shepard. In the end your choice regarding Shepard is very superficial. Dragon Age 2 needs to counter act or at least balance out the lack of choice in the beginning with being able to really dictate how you want to betray Hawke.

No, read the sticky. You play as Hawke a human with a set origin. Beyond that, you can choose class, gender and customize your face. You can only play as human because Hawke is voiced (like Shepard)

I hope this means more characters notice your race...this was deff lessened by being able to choose your race in origins.

I did read the sticky hence my question. it seems we are pigeon/hawk holed into playing a human with a predefined origin story.
