Okay I've ran into my first big problem. I'm trying to start make a romance with liara but the game freezes every time. I picked all the ME1 flags I wanted and then chose "live to fight again" for ME2 just as I always do except this time I picked a romance. First I checked "romanced someone" with "romancing liara" I started a new game and the game kept freezing in the same spot. Then, I unchecked "romanced someone" but I kept "romancing liara" checked. Then the game played just fine but in the beginning Ashley showed up instead of liara???? I need help!!

Hmm, i'm not sure. The only thing i can think of atm is did you check 'Played Mass Effect 1' in the plot/player/flags, and did you set the romance progress level of Liara to 4(or is it 6?) in the plot/me1/values?
I'm not sure if these will make a difference. Just all i can think of.

The higher value of romance progress indicates how intimate the character is with Shepard. If you consummate the romance on the way to Ilos, thats 6.
If Shepard romanced both Ashley and Liara to the point you have to choose, the 'third wheel' gets stuck at 3.
If you romance but don't consummate, ie: by leaving Ashley to die on Virmire (at her request), she's posthumously awarded a score of 4.
You DO have to pick romancing someone, and the name of the intended romance. The scores in the value section designate a favoured partner and must be set.
Out of curiosity I have a game where Liara and Ashley where both romanced and Kaiden was saved on Virmire. Liara gave Shepard the awkward 'lovers' kiss on Illium but its Ashley's portrait on Shepard's desk.
Flags = Romanced Someone, Romanced Liara, Romanced Ashley, Saved Kaiden.
Values = Liara 4, Ashley 6
