Dear Bioware, how goes the search for the Bowstring warehouse?

Looking at the recent art, it has come to my attention that you've found the polearm warehouse and I'm pleased because of it. It narrows down the search for the bowstrings considerably, considering we've had to deal an entire game without them.

Although I'm curious, how is the hunt for the Bowstring warehouse? Will it finally be found before the release of Dragon Age 2 or will my ranger character still only have a bent stick on his back?

Everyone knows bowstrings are overated and useless.  Archers use magic to propel their projectiles. Posted Image

But seriously, that crooked, stringless stick an archer wields looks ridiculous indeed.

Thank god for Alistair or else Daveth would've been screwed, I mean.. maybe the arrow could've fell on the Hurlock's head but that's extremely unlikely.

Arrows are sent by sheer force of the archer's will apparently.

....

And yes, do please find the bowstrings!

All bows use strings of Duncan's beard, which is naked to the invisible eye.

How come my ranger with all points in Willpower can't do anything, then?

Can anyone who was here at the time explain to me why they didn't implement bowstrings to begin with?

They probably figured no one would bother with archery.

They didn't implement bowstrings because in order to do so, the weapon models would have to be animated, and they're static in DA. It's the same reason they don't have things like flails or chain morningstars.

Essentially, they didn't think animated weapon models were worth the zots/processor power that they would eat up.

Thanks. So the bows don't bend either, then? Wow...

I guess it shouldn't be a big deal for me, because I never even noticed it until reading these forums, but I'll probably notice it every time now.

Nope.

Yeah, I never noticed it when the first pictures of DA came out that showed bows until someone pointed it out to me.  I notice it ocassionaly, still, but it honestly doesn't bother me at all.

Heh. I never even noticed the lack of bowstrings until I read this thread. And I ran an archer rogue!

Oh well, who cares. Archers go in the back anyway. :P

In Thedas, bows and arrows are infused with lyrium, so that when an archer draws back an arrow and releases it, it's propelled by magical force.

Nuh-uh. According to my excursions into Awakening, the invisible bowstrings are actually catgut.

...Unless "catgut" is slang for "Duncan beard hair".

Nope. It's pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. Except the "cat" is short for "cattle."

I don't give a damn about bowstrings. Seriously, I didn't even notice they were missing in my first two playthroughs. Then I set foot in this wretched forum and you guys opened my eyes <_<
Let's say they are magic bowstrings that go invisible whenever you look at them, because they are very shy. Meaning, you can't see them but they are really here. Seriously.

I will give you the same answer to those who complained before.

The bowstrings are so thin that they are invisible.

It really wasn't a big deal for me. It would be nice if they were added in DA2, but i'm not overly concerned about it.

It's curious that the bows don't have strings and do not bend, but they still are able to fire arrows. I have several archer characters and it turns out that they do damage after all. To make them work I put most of my attribute points into strength. That way I was able to get a maximum damage of 680 or so using the Arrow of Slaying (or whatever the talent is called). The problem seems that bows too suffer from a dexterity bug. It looks like dexterity is not fully used (some claim a use of 30% instead of 50%). I am not even sure if dexterity is taken into account at all.

Only because archery is semi broken and horrible at the start. Then becomes overpowered by the end lol.

Catgut is material of higher tier then Duncan beard hair. Awakening only.
