I would like to see some indication that time is passing in the game.  I don't just mean over the ten year period, but over days as well.  When you camp I'd love to see either a short cinematic of people *sitting* around a camp fire and laughing - sharing stories - and what have you.  When you stay the night in an inn I'd love to see a cinematic of people walking around, the flickering of candles in the inn, the fire burning down.  Maybe a scene of you watching the sun set with your LI or the character you have the highest influence with. (be in romance, bromance, sistermance, whathaveyou)  These wouldn't need to be long - 30 seconds say, maybe less - but they would help create the illusion that the day is over and another day has passed in the presence of your friends, companions, whathaveyou.

If a cinematic is too expensive, or too much work, then a still painting/drawing showing these sorts of scenes, with a little music in the background would also be nice.

On top of that, I would also like there to be a reason to rest in camp, inns, or what not.  People should actually get tired, they could heal after initiating the "camping scene", what ever you like ... but in most games that don't have anything like this it feels as though you're wading through the entire campaign in a few days time.

I realize DA2 will be organized into acts over time, but the passing of time during acts would be nice.

So ... no "Hey yeah, I'd like that!" or "Meh, whatever." ?

Figured the idea would generate some kind of thought.

Of course it would be cool, but I dont see Bioware implementing it. Environmental detail was laughable in Dragon Age (did you see how was the sun depicted?, and no climate change EVER, despite going to Frostback mountains and seeing snow on the ground). Its a lot of work, btw, and I think they will focus in story and combat, as they already stated.

If you are so enthralled with the idea, I'll suggest you check the Witcher 2 (will come up more or less at the same time than Dragon Age 2) which WILL have time progression and climate change (rain, wind, etc)

Those kind of effects are nice, but unless those have some direct effect on the gameplay — like in Oblivion how certain people would only be in certain places at certain times — I'd rather the effort be put elsewhere. Not saying it wouldn't be cool but unless it has a purpose and is implemented in someway into the gameplay, it's just kind of gimmicky.

This is a good idea. I mean it would give the sense of a more realistic game, in Origins it kind of lacked the timespan feel that it had. Putting more of these little things in the would probably take something else away from the game though, because of time and money issues.. Sadly.

It does have a purpose, immersion. And to me that goes hand in hand with a believable story. I never felt the passage of time in DA:O. It felt like the whole thing happened in 2 days. At least in DA:A Vigil's Keep got some different skylines and that actually made it feel like some time had passed since my last visit.

I think that the feeling of passing time was what Origins ( and Mass Effect) lacked, and it has negative effect on the credibility of the story. So yeah, I like the idea :)
