In Lord Of The Rings, there are many well choreographic sweeping shots. Aside from early Ostigar battle, dragon age very "fixed" the camera never really feel dynamic. Even when warden look up near the end of the game at the  french Grey warden (can't remember name)  trying to kill dragon in the air the camera still very fixes and not really dynamic or very exciting.

This is an example of super camera work,  otherwise what could have been a very mundane boring scene turns into big epic  slow camera pan to  the side and reveal grand scene of mordor,  scene look visually  stunning. All they doing is walking up a hill, not big battle, not  killing monsters, not running in danger,  just walk up a hill, that is  all. Because so well shot, even what could be boring turns out to be awesome, not crap.

In Dragon Age best cinematic early Ostagar battle, then it all dissipate, Like game hit crescendo early on and everything that follows afterwords  not as exciting. Roller-coaster never reach same point again.

Cinematic shots would be nice. I also agree that Ostagar was the best place in the game. And why are you typing so preposterously?

Not necessarily best place, just best cinematic, which make it more memorable. Actual Ostagar, pretty boring compared to the rest of game. Just run around with people doing nothing until battle. Like MMO noob area Island, go kill rats basically, introduction.

as far as i understood, they were against this for the most of the game. to keep the feel. i think we will have more of these. they're awesome. But ME is packed with them and i can just imagine the Dragon Effect uproar whenever a cool cinematic plays...

Eh, I can live without them. I play vids for game mechanics, if I want to sit there and watch cinematics, I just watch a movie. Of course if they could do both without resources being taken away from actual game play, I wouldn't mind, but I think their budget hangs closer to the limited side of the line, rather than the infinite. Which is to say, I was happy with how it was done in the first game.

Agreed, Ostagar had great cinematics. I'm all for a more cinematic management of the convos a la Mass Effect 2.

Agree with op. Ostagar had some inspired visuals. Then things got pretty generic looking.

I'm all in for cinematics if they aren't completely ****d out and used in otherwise calm places in order to make it more "epic." Use them for the big battles like ostagar and the *gasp* moments or the grand introductions, etc... but please; I really don't care if Oghren paces around my entire camp and leans on my tent in my 1 minute convo with him.

Looking back at my post, I want to specify that I also agree that cinematic convos should be in the right places, not all over the place.

I might be misunderstanding. so you want stiff dialogue where no one walks a bit around or sits down or... whatever? just stiff standing dialogue?

Just so long as they're not incomprehensible quick-cut, shakey-cam bull they'll be fine.

If BioWare want pointers on how to direct a great epic battle they should check out Kubrick's Spartacus, Kurosawa's Ran and John Woo's Red Cliff.

You know what was also awesome? That one time in the Deep Roads, right before you encounter the Legion of the Dead. There's this really awesome cinematic thing with the huge dragon, it was really impressive stuff. That was a really awesome part of the game, definitely the most 'wow' moment in the whole Deep Roads part of the game. It really made you feel like 'business is about to pick up', that everything was extra important. More stuff like that would be fantastic.

This. Done well, and at the right moments, cinematic visuals really add to or even make the impact of a scene. Overdone, and, like everything else, they become tedious and gratuitous. I'm all for the important convos in the game having a cinematic feel like Mass Effect, too.
