He doesn't have to be a womanizer in the game either. It's the player who does that.

He doesn't have to, but the game hints that he used to be, so playing him otherwise would have felt... bad roleplay? wrong? (not to mention a lot less funPosted Image). I mean, TW is a bit hazy in my mind (I played it as soon as it first came out), but didn't the game imply that you already had a story with both Triss and Shani in the past? (and who am I to turn down two lovely redheads?) Didn't NPCs mumble "Hide your women!" when you arrived?

Again, not that I'm complaining about that... what sucks, actually, is that I missed a couple of cards...Posted Image

Triss has Auburn hair actually, which is somewhere between brown and red ;).

Triss, Shani, the dryad, the half-elf you rescue, maybe Vesna, and a peasant who throws herself at him. I don´t think Gearlt as in the books would have gone for anyone else, though I can´t remeber all of them now. He wouldn´t sleep with other if he thought a relationship was serious either.
I really don´t see him sleeping with Abigail, the princess, Jaskier´s girl, and so many others. He would despise Rayle, IMO. Good thing he´s amnesiac.

Shani was a one night stand, Triss an attempt to mve on from Yennefer which failed totally: Triss fell for him but Geralt didn´t.

Dark Fantasy though is very open to interpretation and personal taste.. I definitely found Witcher to be much darker than DA:O, yet I would have liked it even darker.

DA:O I think was more implied darkness than actual. Everything seemed to be slightly sugar-coated. Even the alienage didnt feel dejected and grimy, or that elves more barely surviving.

The information you gleamed from your Codex entries could be very dark - accounts of people's encounters with demons, abominations, the methods for creating golems, etc. But what you read and what you played through rarely meshed well in mood. The Thedas of the Codex was a dark and twisted place ... the Thedas of the story less so.

I loved the english voice on Geralt. Did I get a good copy or am I missing something?

And for blurring out sexscenes and stuff... I live in Sweden and here we are "not so stuffy about sex and violence"(get me right here, please). I always laugh when I see an American show, with "Bip""Bip" whenever it's a "bad" word, and I hate that I don't get to see what is going on because there is a huge blurry spot over the whole screne(What is that all about??).
America is a HUGE land and first with so many things, that I'm a bit amazed that you guys are so... (god my english sucks) strict(?) about sex, violence and religion in Tv-shows and games.
Here we can like someone said before, go and get a pornmagazine from the front of the store, for ALL to see. Or rent a pornmovie standing on the same shelves as horror or thriller movies.
Bad words, boobs or hairy asses don't get blurred or "Biped" out.
I find the sex in ME, ME2, DA:O and TW a bit blahablaha. I mean, you don't see anything!! And about the cards in TW. I can't belive people is getting offended by them.First it's a freaking game, second I find them rather good looking( nicely drawn). The only thing is that I would love to have some cards with goodlooking men on them too...Grrr...Mmmm^^. Just for my own pleasure=).(Not in a bad, playing with myself way. Just for eyecandy)
I guess noone will understand what I want to say, but atleast I've got to vent my feelings a bit=).

//Desh

I understand, and I agree. And I´m jealous. You guys in Sweden not only have some of the best bands in the world (Hammerfall) but also better laws than we. I swear, some day I´ll move to Sweden:)

Oh, and all the blonde girls too... MhmmmB)

You are so welcome^^. I can show you around this small country when you arrive. (Posted Imagewon't take long-^)

I'd like to see DAO incorporate more grey choices where there is no explicitly right choice to be made.

I'd love to see busier, more active citizens as well, but would hate for DAO to adopt the same model as TW with clones running about everywhere. The clones are so bad that it really breaks the scenes for me.

I actually liked the cards, but hated that the scenes were blurred out. Why have all the nookie if you're not going to show it? Even Fable's fade-to-black with moaning worked better for me than the blurry mess behind the card. I wish that DAO would incoporate more one night stands. I love having the romances, but not all of my characters are looking to find a soulmate - some would like to just romp around with someone other than a hooker.

I liked TW, but thought the dialogue was just plain awful. I never felt a connection to TW, his/her cause, friends and/or choices. I love that there were real consequences in theory, but ultimately it didn't matter because I felt no connection to the character. My GW and his/her choices would have me nearly in tears at times. It mattered to me what happened to my GW and therefore every decision meant so much more.

Dragon Age has enough clone models all over Ferelden to bother anyone then. I could swear that Lloyd was everywhere across the land!

The cards are fun if you're over 40 and have your wife sneak peek'ing OTS! =)

And if you're an actor and is giving the role of Geralt to play, you might end up having lots of fun with it. I felt a stronger connection with him than with Shepard, perhaps because Geralt's lines are exactly what I chose them to be. Unlike Shepard's... unlike Hawke too maybe? And there is no fraking wheel in The Witcher!!!

DAO had much fewer, less obvious clones - mostly soldiers.  In TW, there'd be 5 old women who look identical with maybe different colored clothing standing right next to each other.
I'm not over 40, I'm female and I doubt that my husband would care if I viewed exposed boobies in a video game - I still I love the cards.

It wasn't so much the acting involved for Geralt - it was the script that bothered me.  It just seemed so corny and "B" movie written.  Shepard didn't bother me much other than him/her being a bit too rigid, but that's what I'd expect from a soldier anyway.  I don't mind a voiced actor, but poorly written dialogue just really makes it hard for me to care about a character.

Oh, she didn't care either. Specially after I went for the Card that is not in the game, if you know what I mean. =)

There are some philosophical discussion in The Witcher that are simply brilliant. Geralt with Yavinn, with Moreen (worthy a card too!) but specially with Zoltar and with Zoltar/Dandelion in a tavern getting drunk... And there are also some very well written lines, although I agree that some others  are corny and "B" movie.

Dandelion: You´re going to get married, so let´s get drunk and go to the wh0rehouse!!!
Zoltan: They don´t let otherlings in.
Dandelion: In the (expensive brothel in marketplace) they do!
Zoltan: Yea let´s go to the wh0rehouse!!!

Yeah, no sex cards in TW2. Apparently they'll focus on deeper romances and on some "cinematic scenes"...Posted Image

Really? OMG NOES! Is there no way we can still change their minds? I want my Geralt to relax from monster-slaying by f*cking everything with breasts, and I want to get a nice card for it, ffs....:crying::crying:

youre lucky there are no breed mothers in witcher universe

To topic: I agree that you basicly arent roleplaying Geralt, since all his answers are in certain tone and written in certain tone, thats why I refer to TW as a "Witcher Simulator" rather then RPG game. But I love it anyways, since hes basicly that type how I play all my favorite characters anyway. Douchy, arrogant and merciless, but with feeling for doing good.

i hear a pang of jellousy from bioware .

Ok here is a wild idea for next dragon age  : people who live in the forest dress differently from people who live in the city . For example the wondering, wild elves wear skins , peasants wear simple wool/cotton fabric (with patches for very poor ) and rich nobles wear ELABORATE cloth made from EXPENSIVE materials  . Instead of one uniformal look that all npcs share . Do some reasearch on medieval culture , arcitecture , fasion  !!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh and another thing , when Dandelion sings , he is playing music ..... not like certian bard who has music randomly generated in her rear when she's singing her annoying song .
If you promise a deep ,enthraling story , then create a PROPPER SETTING AND ATMOSPHERE !

Fortunatly fable 3 and witcher 2 are comming next year , so DA2 will have someone to compete against .

And can you really call any game a "real" role playing . Im yet to see a rpg in which if asked to fetch a magic shoe for some festering noble you can say no and kill the noble , take all his stuff and slap your companion who disagrees with you .
Most games give you bunch of things to say , but in the end result is exactly the same with few slight alterations .  Rpgs are also about being a character , and seeing the world though their eyes  and capturing the mood of the world/story. So far im yet to see a game which does it better then witcher . Bloodlines were good too , the haunted house part was amazing .

Romances and sex in RPGs are the last things I care to experience from pixels, but I think that the Witcher approach is very artistic and fits amazingly well with the character you role-play with. Personally, I liked more the sex cards of Witcher from the cheesy and plastic sex scenes of DA:O which were really awkward. In Witcher the few sex scenes (f.e. Vesna at the old mill) have a medieval fairy tale feel / presentation and were a nice break from its dark world and also the sex cards were very artistically drawn and worthy of a wallpaper / poster IMO. This tiny, secondary and most of the times optional part of TW wasn't something negative for me.

Oh.. forgot the Fistfights! Definitely Fistfights too! Very Fable like but still, worked so well for The Witcher! And the first Fable for PC was definitely a good game. Had lots of funny things. Kicking chickens contest! haha

But specially, Decapitation!  Yes, The Witcher has it too. And the heads are there on the ground. Dragon Age has it too but the heads... "vanish" ????!!!???!!??!??   Really, Bioware, Really... Come on!!!!

And yeah, kicking severed heads in Fable was fun too! (Can't say if F2 was good. I don't think there is a PC version of it)

And a Vampires "Night House" too, why not... hawt!

Yea the fistfights are nice...

And when it comes to mutilations, DA2 should be inspired by Alien vs Predator.

The finishing moves in that game are the best I´ve ever seen^^

Nothing beats holding a guy up, hitting him in the stomach and PULLING HIS BACKBONE INCLUDING HEAD out THROUGH THE BELLY!

The witcher demonstrated that Bioware isn't the king of RPGs anymore. As much as I love DAO, it really can't compare on many levels.

I was hoping and expecting DA2 to be a good chance for Bioware to take the crown back (at least until TW2), but from what I'm seeing, they're going entirely the wrong direction.

heh, made this comparrison on the Witcher forums

The Witcher and DA:O is like comparing Robert Jordans "Wheel of Time" series (The Witcher)  to a (insert stand alone Forgotten Realms paper back novel here (DA:O)).

I can enjoy both but have no delusions on which is the higher, darker, more mature fantasy setting.

In fact, the fact Bioware couldnt do a real sequel and offering up yet anouther 1 up novel seems to drive home that point even more!

With The Witcher 2 we get the on going storyline of Geralt
With DA2 we get a new "throw away when finished" story with a new "throw away when done like the Warden" character

You cant argue the irony of it all.

My complaint was with DA:O I was expecting "Wheel of Time" or even "The Drow Series" by RA Salvatory, not book 1 of the "Harpers series" (series that tells Harper stories, based in Forgotten Realms, but with a new hero each time)

Yes, the cities in DA:O needed some work to bring them to life - though I really liked the market in Denerim and the Bar in Redcliffe, the cities fealt very bland for the most part.

And mini games that you have to actually want to play would be nifty.  The dicing/boxing games could be a lot of fun (mostly the boxing) - and it was terribly amusing that Geralt actually gained access to some powers only when he was drunk.  (I'd love to see a drunken brawling mini game which provided you with new maneuvers like "head but", "staggering punch", "toss furniture" and that sort of thing)

Too much more Bioware bashing and this thread won't last another day. In the meantime, another idea for DA2: red headed Hookers. There were enough of them for 3 games in The Witcher.

Yeah, this is a "what can bioware learn from the witcher" type thread, not a "bioware sucks" thread - we have too many of those already.

Speaking of red heads, I hope they actually put freckles in the character creator this time - rather than making us wait for a modder to do it. I would also like scars, broken noses, cauliflower ears, and cleft chins. (yeah, none of those were available in The Witcher, but they would be nice to have)

Something I would like to see from The Witcher - models of old people bent at the back, rather than their bodies looking young and the only signs of age in their face.

Lol! Good point. The opportunities for casual sex are only presented for the player. I'm pretty sure Geralt can stay chaste as choir boy the whole game, if you wish.
