True. Everyone who does not pray to BioWare as their gods and refuses to play anything that is not made by BioWare deserves instant and permanent banhammer.

Punish the haters, Oh BioWare OUR GOD!!!!

awwww did I hurt your wittle feewings?
Do you feel threatened that I dont blindly praise Bioware?

Listen kid, fact is I been around these forums before you were potty trained and will probably be around them long after your parents stopped giving you money to buy games!

Your just going to have to accept some people like to THINK and QUESTION and not just blindly follow like a mindless lemming.

If you truely think your limited veiwpoints going to be the majority in life (forget just gaming) your in for a life of disappointment and regret. But I suspect your use to those two things already!

I been a Bioware fan longer then you been alive probably! Still doesnt mean I give them a blank cheque and brainless loyalty. Learn to live with your shortcomings as you have many from all appearences!

WTH? This thread is proof that some people aren't blind followers of a specific company and really appreciate good RPGs no matter who the developer is. Of course Bioware is one of the best regarding RPGs but this doesn't mean that we must catch every bone with a bioware logo on it like good pups. After all, except from gamers we are customers and we have every right to criticize, give feedback (positive or negative) and expect improvements from them.

Am I the only one who enjoyed a lot the combat system in The Witcher?

No, I enjoyed it too.

That said, I wouldn't want DA2 to emulate TW's combat.  Like many others, I would prefer increased emphasis on delayed consequences (in a branching storyline) and more genuine grey areas (DA is supposed to be dark fantasy).

And you used IrreverAnt, Mix of Irreverent with Irrelevant? lol But yes, Geralt is pretty irreverent when it comes to seducing some of the townsfolk. Like when he reply to the "special touch" one of them mention. "It tingles... want to see for yourself?".. heh I'd say it's pretty much par with the "What about your fruit? Is it forbiden too?" which a insinuative dwarf launched over Leliana!

What is so bad about that? It´s actually quite what I would say in such a situation in Real Life. And sometimes DID:devil:

Geralt reminds me of Prince Arthas of War3!

Well, I don´t see the similarity.  After all, Geralt doesn´t turn into a Death Knight and conquer the land (sadly....).

I didn't say it was bad at all. On the contraire!

And Geralt reminds me of the cinematics of the human campaing... "What are you doing, my son?" ... "Succeeding you, father!" ... The hair, the sword... whenever I play Undead in WC3 or Geralt in TW.. they remind me of each other and I tthink that's cool!

Garalt obvious reference is Elric of Melniboné, even to both being called "White Wolf".

Now, that's something I want to see in both DA2 and TW2. There's no real depth and weight in an RPG if they do not have a... Troll! (Gothic rulez!)

Trolls in Witcher world guard bridges and take a toll for crossing it. As the price is reasonable and it also keeps the bridge in good condition locals don´t want it killed.

EDIT: I liked more the Kong trolls from 1 and 2, especially after the Shrinking spell.

Hard to compare. The lore of the witcher is based upon the very good book series of Sapkowski while the DA:O books are written around a game. It´s no big surprise than, that the lore and story of TW is deeper and worked out better. At least in my opinion.
Besides of this f.e. the witcher doesn´t try to make everybody between 12 and 88 years happy and patriotism (witch is often a big point in American games, see Wardens story) doesn´t play such a big role.
The contra is, that the games don´t feel that epic like f.e. the last fight in DA:O where you feel the worlds weight on your shoulders.

European RPGs are usually made brighter (!) in the export version for the U.S. For a mature RPG the outside scenes of DA:O including the swamps at Ostagar looked very peaceful and shiny.
I hope that in DA2 there will be a little bit more darkness and mud and dirt.^^

PS:

The reason why the witchers.. ohm.. relationships are pretty fast and easy is, that the only women he really loves, Yennefer, isn´t really implented in the game.
As they often don´t see eachother for years and try to hurt the other one as much as they can when they do, it´s okay how it is handled in the game.
And Yennefer is.. well. Compared to her, Morrigan is a very nice, calm person.

um, that has nothing to do with the USA, every decent man or woman feels supportive for either home or ruler, or both, as in "for king and country"

"For Death and Glory!"

Now, I could swear that those monkeys in Murky Waters are related to those in Zaeed's personal quest in ME2! And this thread is not about comparing them but rather about what might be cool to have in common between then. I really like the diversity of the alchemy system and it works, with formulae and secondary properties plus toxic side effects.  Not easy to make everything imbued with Albedo!

I tried playing The Witcher after DA2 was announced to see what people were talking about re. the voiced protagonist, and I found it really boring.  The only thing of Geralt's that I controlled in a few hours of gameplay were his combat attacks (repetitive) and one or two conversation lines (insipid).  Oh, and got to nail the hot redhead... thus far the most entertaining part about the game was telling my husband that I bedded my first wench.

Doesn't seem like an RPG to me.  Gameplay feels pretty much like Modern Warfare did, though not as fast paced.

Well, the first time I listened to Album IV of Led Zeppeling I rushed back to the store and exchanged it to something else. Later I gave it a chance and it became simply my favourite album of all. This was like 33 years ago and it is still my favourite album of all! I could number a list of things that do this. Don't give up without really giving it a chance.

As for the combat, wait until you have a Gold talent in both Strong and Fast, Witcher and Silver swords and play it in Hard Mode (which also requires proper enhancing/immunities/regen/time altering mutagens and specific oils to actually face the tough enemies - or bombs for those into it). The moves are actually amazing and with the proper style for each type of enemy, you'll end the game wishing for more combat but the game ended... (I mean, if you never hit a level IV Power Up Fast Silver hit on a incinerating Royal Wyvern with an Argentia coated sword and Wolf mutagen enhanced, you really know nothing of the combat in The Witcher)

And this is my first run since I played DA:O. Had many before and a couple dozen full runs in DA:O. There are already similarities in these games. The Lady of the Lake is Whiterfang without a shadow of doubt. Even the way that the body is covered... heh

So I guess that someone at Bioware did play The Witcher and approved it!
