The Witcher -> Dragon Age II

i like limits to inventory showed in the witcher.. where you can bring only a certain amt & kind of weapon
but i would like DA2 to have mounts that can 'mule' items for you
in witcher i ended up having to take multiple trips to the bartender just to stow items
some semblance of an alchemy system (although for witcher it got correctly implemented only in the enhanced edition).
combat system in witcher is kind of fun -- though this would not be a fit for party combat.
and finally, i want a DA2 with no happy perfect ending...

You guys bad mouthing Fable... have you ever played the game? It is an awesome game with many cool features that were "respectfully" copied by other games afterwards. I really don't know who is clueless when it comes to games.
Let's see, I'm 46 and have played most games that came out since Diablo 1 which was the milestone in cRPG. A good game is nothing other than a game which satisfies the customer. A bad game usually has lousy controls, cameras, gameplay, story, acting, graphics and stability. Tell me which of these applies to Fable.
I found Diablo so boring I didn't get past the demo, actually. So I guess Fable was better than that.
o'common... when diablo came out it blew away any game of that era... i have been playing games since KQ1

If Diablo was an RPG, then I guess Starcraft was a space-simulation.
Perhaps if it had been sold as "Groo the Barbarian the RPG", I'd accept it as an RPG, but even Groo had more humour than Diablo.

yup yup - i want stories that earn the M rating...
but remember that children die in DA:O -- that should be dark enough for anybody.

nope i haven't -- well let's just say that in the 90s, I was living in a country that did not exactly have free access to all games.

this is one ofthe few things ME2 did right, with the suicide mission everyone can decide for their own who they want alive or dead, but even there are some people who complain that the game even has a superb ending where everyone survives, I seriously don't get how some people are thinking

I don't mind the fact that you could basically determine who died and who didn't, I just wish X number of people would have been required to die so in the end there was always some tragedy to the story.

I like that there was no "feel of tragedy" forced upon the player if prepared properly for the missionelearon1 wrote...
When I played ME2 the first time I was a bit disappointed at how easy it was to get everyone out of there alive; I had wanted more tough choices like the Ashley/Kaiden thing in the first game. My second playthrough I purposefully refused to do certain loyalty missions and such just so the people I didn't care about would have a better chance of dying.

You sound like you're talking about Diablo 2. I was talking about Diablo 1. And there was enough story book stands, NPC with dialogues, quests, level ups, inventory, increasing loot quality and action to make it a very solid action-rpg for those days. One that has been copied a lot and has a mplayer that is played up to this day! And a story that has Baldur's Gate as a spin off! That should say something about D1.
Now, from The Witcher, one of the things I love is the scares! I mean, I've finished a good number of times and still those Crypts in chapter 4 still give me the goosebumps. And I'm with a level 31 witcher, capable enough of killing all in Hard mode with a very good char built and advanced alchemy. But the music, the atmosphere, the darkness even with a Cat potion, the bats, the lesser and greater ghouls, vampires and wraiths that jump out of the floor or off the roof... it's non-stop goosebumps and while I don't run from any fight, I just wished that Dragon Age:Origins could have something like that.
The Elven Ruins had potential but spiders, skeletons and one Arcane Horror were far from getting that deep sense of Fear and Courage which is going ahead despite of the Fear. (Or not. Just turn away and get the hell out of there!) And I don't think we'll be seeing it in DA2 either.

Good for you.
I've played worse things than D1. I did finish the demo after all, and if I got the whole game for free I might have played further. But I saw absolutely no reason to pay for any more of the same.

I consider Diablo a milestone in gaming as well. It influenced a lot of developers. 8 hrs in, and I had enough, but Diablo is a game that was easy to pick up and really get into. If it had better story, more varied maps to explore, and less redundant click and attack combat...I can only hope Blizzard has improved Diablo 3 - making it more of an rpg than a click fest.
Oh, I agree that it was a milestone, absolutely. Milestone != good.

^Crazy talk.
You're comparing a first person shooter with an in depth story-based rpg. They're not even the same genre. And you're obviously put off by the fact that Geralt has sex in the game...madness!
How much of TW have you actually played?
I said I played several hours. Leveled twice, got to the village where you meet the monsters and tooled around there for a while, lost interest in the game.
This is what you call in depth? Okay. Modern Warfare has a story, too. I don't care what genre you want to put it in, the actual experience of playing the game was less entertaining than MW.

That's like... 5% of the game at most. You can't talk about the depth of a game you've played 5% of.

I realize that, but I'm not going to spend hours and hours trying to delve into a game that has given me nothing to care about. Every author knows you grab your readers on the first page, in the first paragraph if possible. Nor do I see it as roleplaying when all I control is Geralt's combat moves.Kenrae wrote...

Anyway, as this is apparently a thread about how great the game is, I won't rain on the parade any longer.

Now, this I could take or leave. I appreciate the dramatic value of the various shocks and surprises of DA:O's end game. However, the first time I played DA:O, the ending I finally got left me sad and angry for about two days afterwards. When I then replayed taking various choices, and discovered that there was literally no way my city elf could preserve everything/everyone she valued/loved, I can't say I was too impressed. There is something to be said for happy endings - at least, for the possibility of a happy ending, if certain choices are made.Mycrus Ironfist wrote...

I realise this is somewhat at odds with the idea that DA2 should be darker than DA:O, but I don't think it's entirely out of keeping with the dark fantasy archetype to finally be able to win through, against all odds, with major suffering along the way.
