They´re more similar than you think.

At least, Iin both cases I feel the need to thrust my sword deep into them (and I mean this in the LITERAL sense, not as synonym for sex:devil:)

Well thank you. I never kept myself a n00b or an idiot, but thanks for pointing this out. I can die happily now. Although I don't see the correlation between a number in the name and someone's behavior. The 83 in my name simply refers to my year of birth: (19)83.

Oh, and a letter T in the name = noob / idiot. Well-known internet fact. :police: (See? I can write stupid things too.)

I was joking... In fact two different characters altogether. Adda is a kinky "daddys girl". Anora is a shrewd and mischievous politician. Probably it was right not to go over the top with her, cause she could have been ended as a cartoon.

Well, you might be an exception, I can´t tell as this is the first post by you I read, but my DotA-experience and CoD tell you that most people with numbers in the name are noobs.
This is even so well-known that many hosts kick everyone with numbers before starting a game!!
I´m sorry if you suffer from those noobs, but you should just have another nickname. Having numbers in the name is like, if you wear a Wehrmacht uniform on Carnival: You are not necessarily a fascist, but most people will think you are one because non-fascists usually don´t wear that kind of thing.

Just goes to show how much bioware have betrayed the franchise to casual gaming and action gamers. How can we be comparing DA to the witcher, an action RPG! This is such a shame, they really had something good going and then like all games now they ruin it :crying:

There are parts that are comparable. Story, characters, atmoshphere.

Again with the action rpg label :)

The Witcher is a RPG. It has point and click based combat, so what? Combat was just a tool for furthering story. I think the plot/script/brancjing main story, plus character customization in skills allow me to treat it as full-fledged RPG. And to all that do not agree and state that the talents and leveling up is a shallow system: it breakes down to melee combat, low magic and alchemy. Depending on which path you take you must have in mind it supports or is supported by certain talents/skills and weapon you use. And you cant max in all...

Action rpg suggests the action is ...well, why do I even bother? :D nevermind

Action RPG makes me think of Diablo or Sacred. Everybody seems to have their own definition.

What´s the problem with Anora? If you tell her you are going to put a man with no ruling skills at all in "her" throne and going to kill her father, what did you expect to happen?

Sure, Anora's just doing her thing,. Unfortunately, her thing is the same sort of unprincipled Machiavellian rule that damn near destroyed Ferelden in the first place. My first Warden preferred to die, and in fact did die, rather than see her take the throne.

Action RPG means that the player's reflexes play a role in the combat, which is true in TW and not true in other RPGs. If you've got a better term than action RPG we can use that.

Good point, but I don't agree with it entirely. If this would be the definition an action RPG, the Icewind Dale games should be considered pure RPGs. I think in action RPGs, combat outweights other role playing elements in the gameplay.

I see people use hack 'n slash for combat-heavy RPGs.

Of course, since we don't agree on the definition of RPG itself, it's not too surprising that there isn't much consensus on the subcategories either.

Does it even matter whether witcher is an RPG or an Action-RPG?

I'm hearing more and more of the Witcher and i'm really tempted to get it. Is it, in your opinion, better than DAO, ME or KotOR.

Its  AS GOOD as DA:O and better then ME2 or even KotOR. I have ME1 as my all time favorite game personally but thats more a sci fi thing then anything else.

The Witcher is just as indepth story and enviroment wise and moreso in making cities and places feel alive! People sell their goods, they sleep, they drink, all depends what time of day and what character they are.

I styrongly advice anyone that hasnt played it to play it but dont expect DA:O, its vastly different on that front.

I agree, back in the day kids didnt create a 100 different theories of what a RPG was, we all knew and it wasnt worth argueing about!

Course I never heard of a RP-PVP server till recently as well (having never seen a PKer that RPs in a MMO) so who am I to comment? LOL

For me, DA:O is the worst of games here (i played it, and this game is like dull and unpleasant work, not fun), then Witcher (long way from DA, nearly as good as ME/ME2, story-wise is just as good, but there are some technical things that could have been done a little better) and ME/ME2(In first few game completions they are equally good. ME2 is better when it comes to three and more game completions - original ME had too much long, uninteresting things that slowed down the gameplay, like elevators and mako exploration)

That was exactly my point. RPG is an (a?) RPG. But nowadays people refer to something as action RPG as if it was inferior to real  RPG...which is what exactly?
The Witcher is a damn good RPG experience, aside from combat which is a hit or mis scenario for most of us. I like 'em both actually, DAO and Witcher combat.

After some years I just started anew (The Witcher), and it still looks good and is captivating. I'm wondering in chapter 1 talking to every peasant and old lady for stories and some info...giving old hags gifts so they talk to me at all!
Now that is what I call an RPG!

EDITED for spelling, gramma and other mistakes...damn its late..gotta go to work in 6 hours...need to go to sleep ASAP

The Witcher is definitely a much darker story/setting/game in comparison to DA:O. But I'd still maintain DA:O had the better story and setting, and was ultimately much a better game. Dark Fantasy isn't in any way the best type of fantasy, only a sort of fantasy. I think the problem was mainly in how Bioware's marketing needlessly and falsely continiously advertised DA:O as dark fantasy. Now, dark fantasy is the "hip", trendy type of fantasy these days, so I understand the pressure BioWare must have felt to push DA:O into that direction at least on the marketing side. But it was and is completely silly. BioWare should aspire to make/write very high quality fantasy, and being dark has nothing to do with reaching that goal.
