Hey, when quoting someone and editing it to lose the crazy hipnotic squares (talk about a crazy website quote system), please pay attention to avoid such mistakes.

Whoops. Post edited, with my apologies.

I said the same thing as you did only that it's not broken. It's very hard to get a knockdown with aard on the hellhound, unless you're playing in Novice mode.

Seemed to me you can do it on the hardest difficulty just fine, with upgraded Aard and Tawny Owl (if at first you don't succeed...) running. My latest playthrough definitely was on the hardest (non-modded) setting, and indeed the Beast fight went like this: Aard (stunned), kill. In 3 out of 4 playthroughs I thus had a quite easy time here. But you can think whatever you like, I'm just relating my own experience with the game. Extreme luck is a possbility, I guess.

Damn. How did I miss out on this? I'll have to try it as I'm on my second playthrough. Picture looks legit. Thanks for the tip, Yojimboo.

Edit: talking about dual wield.

I can say it true.

Loved playing the Witcher and cut tons of heads with the "charging" attack.
Something had to be maxed out, when i remember correctly, so Geralt take his other Sword.

"using steel sword, group style, charging it makes you dual wield" found it via google.
EDIT:

Geralt dual wields during the level 4 group steel special attack (The Executioner).

You
hold down the left mouse button and he un-sheaths his silver sword, and
if you release the LMB when it's fully charged he'll attack do a 4 or 5
hit combo with both swords, although it's still a steel combo.

He
also dual wields with a short weapon during the final, level 5 attack
of group silver. Whatever short weapon you have, he'll incorporate it
into the combo, although I'm unsure weather the weapon's individual
properties have any effect, usually because the 5th combo kills them
outright so it's hard to tell whether the knife causes pain and
poisoning, or whether the axe dislodges the shield.

ahhhh thats how he did it!

When he said charged up I couldnt for life of me figure out how he got through the stages with out a opponent!

Thanks Luci

The Witcher is pretty good, but there are several things that have kept me from playing it for extended periods.  First, I feel it suffers from what I call "Sandbox Syndrome", in which there are tons of things to do and not enough real world time to do it.  Plus, there's a graphical glitch that makes all torches in the game "bleed" in the backgrounds.  That is, if a scene has a torch, it will be see through in the walls and even npcs.  This, to me, makes it nearly unplayable without Nhancer...and the current version is now obsolete due to my new Nvidia driver.  But once it updates, you can bet I'll play TW again.

PS: I never actually had a problem with the combat system.  Guess I'm one of the lucky ones?

There's no argueing on The Witcher being the darkest of the two games - it also took a lot of risk with the more explicit contents (like the cards!) :P

As to say which of the two is the better game overall... hmm, that'd be a tough one - most likely DAO due to having a far easier to handle gameplay, I managed just fine in the Witcher after the steep learning curve, but there are quite a few people who'll never get the hang of it (or throw it out of the window in frustration :P)

yeah, seen a couple of those here that couldnt get past tutorial but tried to act like they had the be all and end all reveiw for the game!

That stuff drives me crazy, the only way you know how good or bad something is, is to actually play it. Otherwise you can only really comment on what you did play.

Your right Witcher had steapers learning curve but not by much. I was pretty far into DA:O before I even remotely started to understand tactics, if im being truthful. Most of my first game was played being fustrated that my healer wouldnt heal on time.

Witcher was by far darker and took more risks, I always thought less of DA:O for how they handled the sex sceens in DA:O. The romance up to sex sceen was good but the actual joining was terrible! Mass Effect 1 is still my all time favorite followed by The Witcher.

I hear you. I recreated my char after 60 hrs, lvl 15, into DA:O because I sucked badly, in Normal diff. Since then, with that bit more experience with the game, I've only played Nightmare and haven't died once! I mean, my chars. No Injuries! Except one stupid elf that got injured once with that chest/cheaper item quest... grrrr.

And every new run I have with DA:O I find room for improvements. A little here, a little there. With the Witcher, it actually took me too full runs in Intermediate Mode with Isometric camera before I could really play in Expert mode with the OTS.

But this still isn't a thread to compare both games. OP asked "which elements of The Witcher you would like to see in Dragon Age 2."

Honestly, none for me. I'd let The Witcher be The Witcher with an awesome prospect for TW2. What I really would like to see in DA2 is a lot of the Dragon Age: Origins that are being taken away. Why the heck is Bioware doing that? Only because "console is where the money is"? Sux!

Witcher: crap magic system, repetitive combat, no character classes, tedious alchemy system, few cool skills, bland talent trees, story that tries too hard to be dark. It's an awful game.

Witcher looks better and better with each new screenshot. Well, a decent PC can handle such graphics, so I'm not surprised with the quality. It helps that they are not stretching themselves on three platforms at the moment.

But DA2 is looking good in the new screenshots as well. They after all promised to make it look "super hot".

The cinematics they ve shown some months ago (regarding the first chapter and a scene in a town) looked impresively better than the previous game, though some character expressions and movements were a bit jerky, and came accross as unnatural, something like a puppet being pulled from above... :-) I hope they fix that in time...

The story it seems it will be shorter but more deep and with more turns. Which of course will add to the replayability.

SPOILER FROM LAST YEAR
Oficially they didnt show nothing about it, yet, but a leaqued video from last year shows there will be a dragon too, doing much damage... Although not so dramatic and over the top as Flemeth, but who knows?
END SPOILER

In the coming week we'll have Im sure some video material of the new stuff they are showing right now in Cologne (Game Con).

Nobody wants anything from TW in DA2. Which is fine by me. Both games are looking good.

But this thread should be moved to off topic as its basically become a Witcher discussion thread. Given the new info on TW2, there may be some folks who would like to discuss without being obligated to relate it back to DA2.

I'm pretty sure a lot of you RPG lovers have played The Witcher as well, and found its likes and dislikes about it.
What I would like to know of you guys though, is which elements of The Witcher you would like to see in Dragon Age 2.

As for me, I really liked the realistic mature aspect of the game. When people badmouthed someone, it was really badmouthing and not just some child friendly calling someone a cheese head. Dirty allys had not only thugs, but prostitutes as well. And some people didn't mind showing some skin here and there.

Other then that I really liked the choice and consequence that happened between chapters (heard it will be implemented in DA II as well, but I would still like to point that one out).

Sometimes choosing lesser evil because there were no good.

Night/Day rotation, with their added effects.

Okay, keep anything related to the Witcher away from Dragon Age, the only similiarities these two games have is the "dark fantasy" lore. No, no, no! Do not infect Dragon Age with Witcher-itis! The Witcher is a lousy attempt at action rpg's, everything in the Witcher is terrible except for maybe the engine.  Wait, the alchemy system was intriguing but unpolished. Ugh...Witcher-itis! Bioware was brilliant with Dragon Age, stick to the formula, balance and polish.

Witcher-itis...clever.

Again, mods please move this thread to off topic. Nut-huggers are currently enraged by the wave of criticism that has hit DA2 forum. They are out in force. Above post is representative of the type of vitriol and exaggeration we see on both sides. Lets move thread or just kill it. I'm tired of reading schlock.

Hell yeah.
Some (optional) stealth action in cRPG is a good thing. I wonder if we'll see it in DA2 too

I could do without Arkham Asylum's detective mode in The Witcher. Pretty brazen of Cd Projekt if you ask me.
