I didn't think of them as cards so much as "memories." and I find the idea of mature sex to be a bit strange. Like sex is some high and lofty romantic thing that should get adequate lead up to and not something two horny animals engage in.



Of course, my viewpoint could be skewed.



I'm really looking forward to The Witcher II, and hopefully it does some innovative things that may have an impact on Dragon Age III.

Even if they continue to make it a light, man-wh*re type of approach, at least show us Geralt's assets.  We get plenty of impossibly perky cleavage shots, how about something for the ladies. 

heh... well I must admit that I never collecting card's in The Witcher because I considered them to by too immature even for me ... of course one or two fell into my hands but by chance and only durring explore the story .

in fact I'm not attached to sex/nudity in TW1. and I will not look for it in TW2. unless it will be supported by story

Like I said upthread, I view it as humorous.  I'll tell my husband (who can't really play because we share a PC and it's hard to have two players with different saves etc.) about the wenches I bedded.

I'm sure different women approach it differently, i.e. those who are strict roleplayers would try to figure out what situations Geralt might have a roll in the hay and act appropriately.  I don't see it as a deep roleplay type of game, so at least for a first pt I'm just amused at nailing everything that moves.

This was my take on the game too, Geralt is a such a manw**** you can actually get in to playing him like that, even as a female.  Of course he is slightly deeper than that and the political/personal decisions he has to make later in the game are fascinating.  I also like the dicing boxing and potion making...  The Witcher was actually quite great and I have never regretted buying it the first day it came out in the UK, only that I didn't get the special edition the Game shop girl was offering me...

A visit to the brothel in DA was potentially way more disturbing than anything I encountered in TW1. But no one criticizes Bioware for that stuff.

I don't consider them a hang-up, it just makes me not take the story very seriously.  I mean, you expect a fantasy game to have a little bit of goofy, but Triss' jigglers and Vesna's cooing "those who hustle get the reward" just made me giggle.  And the cards scream junior high male lockerroom.

The Pearl is goofy that way, too, but is a small drop in the bucket compared to the very serious, well-written romances.  I am hearing rumors that something more meaningful comes out with Triss or Yennefer what's-it, but thus far I haven't seen it.

??  No one is talking about banning sex in games.  So easy on the pointless hate.

I think what happens is that games are meant to have a fantasy element, but what men consider fantasy clashes with what women consider fantasy.  I'm generalizing, of course.  DA manages to make a game that seems to accommadate women really well.  TW1 is very obviously a male fantasy.  It doesn't mean I can't enjoy the game as a female player, I'm just aware that I'm in male softcore porn land.

Well video games ARE a male dominated industry. We enjoy our softcore porn and fan service. When these "girl gamers" come to complain and whine because things like this are offensive to them, most of the time the game companies comply. I dont think Bioware has had any real balls for any content after that alien sideboob crap.

I don't know what women like these days, but imagine if suddenly a group of men would attach themselves to a female dominated hobby, and then would complain how a certain aspect would not fit to THEIR tastes. It would ruin it for the girls simply because a small group wants something done a certain way.

I did collect all cards I could in my first run through TW. Hey, it's all fun and games. I don't really try to put my own personality into a game character, unless I'm playing a Knight/Paladin type, which I may not be but still, I would love to. Otherwise, I'm just an actor playing some diverse roles and for replayablity's sake, I might try something totally different on subsequent playthroughs.

I mean, do actors "role play" their parts or what? Even when the character is totally written for them, they still add some personal touch to the character but it doesn't have to be a reflection of their personality, quite the contraire, I'd say. Versality is bliss.

PS.: Oh, Addai, nice movies but... do you have anything that doesn't have Alistair on it? hehe I know I have plenty with Leliana myself but it's a small part of a large collection like yours... only not that obsessive! Is your hubby a jealous man?

I have no idea what you mean by alien sideboob, but it sounds pretty funny.

Sure, you get to have your melons of power, and we get to mock you for it and spend our money elsewhere.  I agree it's a fair trade.  Then again I'm a recent convert to gaming and don't consider it a disaster to ignore most games.

Compared to DAO romances, there frankly isn't that much to the Triss/Shani choice. I contrast to the encounters with other females in the game, however, you as Geralt at least have the opportunity to roleplay that there is something more meaningful there.



I've just started reading Blood of Elves, having been introduced to Yennefer in The Last Wish. She is indeed quite the character. Geralt lusts for her right away but gets, to put it mildly, a lot more than he bargained for. It is hilarious, somewhat disturbing, epic.
