Agreed. Female witcher is nada. And I wouldn't be really pleased if CD project would pull this out, throwing Sapkowski's books out of the window and assrape the lore.

Oh, so you're just going to pick and choose what defines fantasy to arbitrarily say The Witcher is somehow unique?slimgrin wrote...

The Witcher did break new ground for the fantasy genre, no question.
It's about as far away from Tolkien as you can get.
Please.
Okay.

For me, I just can't get behind playing as a guy. Unless the second game offers a "female" option, I guess I'll sit this one out. Too bad, too, because it really looks good.
The gender thing has never been an obstacle for me, in fact, a female Witcher sounds pretty cool.
as long as game will match the realities with books of A. Sapkowski there will never by "female" witcher cause witchers in book have rule that only boy's can stand mutation... soo sorry "female mode" lovers...
and before 100 of people will start crying " what about Ciri!!!" ... she didn't pass mutation soo she is not a "female" Witcher. EOS
I'm sure the nerd rage over a female Witcher would be epic.

Im sure they could come up with smthg that wouldnt tread on Sapkowskis work. If it would be done well and not in acheap way, Id be cool with it.
In the Polish-miniseries there was a female Witcher. (I know the series was really awful, but that element was done OK I think).
--------------------
Regardless, just ranting here. CDP will most probably keep male whitchers for thier games. If they try female protagonists (and I hope they will) in the future, they will come up with another story.

It's not only us. The author of the series Andrzej Sapkowski raged the same way when the TV series featured this "samurai-like" bollocks AND female witchers.
I still think this lore is not worth bending over when it has been estabilished by years ago. No offense againts your ideas but this is it.

BTW: Avalla'ch is mentioned quite a lot in the game(and he was also some sort of an antagonist in the books?), so maybe he shows up in TW2 too?

BTW: Avalla'ch is that blonde haired elf. As for Ciri, I think it's kinda obvious.

BTW if they would introduce a female protagonist it would be a witcher trained girl (trained by them I mean). Or some mercenary legend like Słodka Trzpiotka or Black Rayla.

Lol, Ciri's face was really unsightly after what happened to her face...and for some reason al artwork tends to oversigh that fact...
I am not quite sure what's the big deal about her scar.
All I know is, that she got it on her left cheek and Sapkowski isn't really saying she's horribly disfigured or something.
Gallahad even takes interest in her, remember?
Yesh! Julia "Sweet Flibbertigibbet" Abatemarco and her 'Free Company'! My favourite female mercenary leader!Or some mercenary legend like Słodka Trzpiotka .
We need more girls like her.
Funny thing that , Adam "Adieu" Pangratt asks her to marry him. Despite the fact that he is already married.

No way to get a transcript in English, Spanish or even German, at least?
While female witchers are out of question, someone like Ciri is possible. She has witcher fighting styles (in fact I thought I´d like to see her when I got to the last sword levels, that death dance is just beatiful to the eye, even with all the blood) and magic talents on her own not witcher related. Of course, potions would be much more limited.
I guess it is obvious why Ciri´s scar is downplayed, but it is left quite clear on side of her face is pretty bad, despite the doctor who healed her being rather good. In "Something ends, something begins" (not canonical ending by the author) she grows her hair and combs it so that the scar is not visible at first glance. Art should go that way IMHO.

No potions for other than witchers. Mages use some elixirs but thats it. Too powerfull for common folk. Rest of the world rely only on steel, claws and fire...all fuled with hate. And its the way I like it personally.

The Witcher on the whole felt like it was populated by real people, moreso than DA:O. The dialogue and the writing seemed more believable, at least in the Polish version, which is the one I played. Some people were grim and broken, some were cheerful, yet almost all had a complex mix of positive and negative qualities. The fact that Geralt was voiced helped too. I'd like DA2 to take a leaf out the Witcher's book in that department.
I really liked the combat in The Witcher, though DA:O was better. The potions were awesome in the Witcher though, and introduced an interesting new dimension to combat. Some of the more interesting ones (eg. ones that slow down time) would be tricky to implement in a 4-member party context though
The Witcher had a great sense of relationship between some of the characters. Having extended conversations during the course of a party and then staggering home drunk with them really made me feel like I was getting to know them. I think this worked because these were multi-character 'scenes' that I was a part of, and not just 1-on-1 conversations like in DA:O.
I wasn't a fan of the Witcher's choice and consequence, actually. Most of the time, you had to choose between one option that was horrible, one that was awful, and one that was terrible. In the end, it all amounted to pretty much the same story, just with different people on different sides. This isn't a 'grey moral dillema', it's just being forced to pick between 3 different shades of black. I found it boring, frustrating, and actually quite linear.
Day/Night cycle - definitely a good thing.
Profanity. I don't like profanity for profanity's sake, but in a world filled with slums and dungeons, where cold-hearted men plot and backstab eachother while demonic darkspawn shoot out of the ground and rip people to shreds, the absence of any swear words just feels like bad writing.
