I play it in Polish with English subtitles, better voices and translation than in Spanish ( a great irony considering the translation of the books is fantastic).
BW games never get dubbed here, something that annoys people, though I prefer VO.
About Witcher 2 I just hope this time Yennefer appears (Geralt´s true love from the books - Triss is her best friend).

And I mailed Blizzard trashing them so hard because the Latin American version of Starcraft 2 has only Spanish and Portuguese while all other Blizzard games we played since good ol' Diablo is in the original US version. Nothing ever will be better than the original sound. All dubbing end up being a real piece of crapola. Only that, in The Witcher I wouldn't know the difference because I never heard the original Polish version so I got used to the English one pretty well.

I've been a tester for Warcraft II - Tides of Darkness, dubbed into Portuguese many years ago and it was so awful that I trashed it too until I got my hands in some files to convert it back to English. Portuguese is a wonderful language for music and literature but when it comes to games, it really doesn't fit. Maybe I'm just too used to English or just like it too much but in an RTS, the changes in the hot keys make the game unplayable in a competitive level.

its not like that at all, just Dragon Age was too familiar, it tried to be different, but calling yourself a hardcore mature gamer by playing Dragon Age is a bit too much

I don't recall anyone calling them selves hardcore for playing Dragon Age... Must have missed it with my Americanized eyes.

So wait, DA is American because it follows something close to what a British guy did?

for some people, everything which is not a JRPG is an "extremely americanized" RPG

Maybe that's what makes German type RPG's so appealing to me. I really love most of them and one of them is my best game ever!

IMO, these 2 games are the best next-gen RPGs. The Witcher is technically a better product for me, but it's not without flaws and it hasn’t so much RP freedom / customization comparing to DA:O. Both have great story though (but for different reasons).

The day / night cycle mechanism of Witcher simply gives to the game enviroments more realism, life and colors. TW has a real dark / medieval / gothic feel, spooky environments and monsters. The cities are huge, and actually they look like cities and guess what, they are full of people. Armory, weaponry and overall art design is superior too. There is a great balance between realism and fantasy.

BUT
, DA:O has better and easier gameplay, it has companions and dragons. You can’t go wrong with dragons.

now let me asked you have you ever played a fantasy RPG in which there are no dwarves or elves or characters based of mythology. An RPG that revolves on a concept like dreams or time travel?

Or would u rather just be the gewd guise, (BUT YOU CAN ALSO BE EVIL TOO DUR DUR DUR) and save the world?

the same tolkien esque crap featuring good vs evil
elves, dwarves, orcs darkspawn, trolls nvm they are alternatively called ogres. Medieval, Sword, shield, dragons, magic, blah blah blah.
It was a fun game, but nothing we haven’t seen before. Combat system too familiar, tab targeting, mana LYRIUM WHOOPS SORRY, cast spells, tanks, healers
The Qunari were decent and Bioware tried to be different with the elves, but cmon its the same stuff over and over again.

They could have been a bit more original, but from my experience with different games, being innovative and different isn't always a good idea.

None of those things really makes the game americanized though...whatever that may mean :P

I think he meant the maturity level of the game looks american, lots of violence but some of it being held in the background because it might be to disturbing, and lack of... I'm trying to find the right word here... sex appeal?

Witcher was good

instead of deciding to hug a cat or throw it into a fire, you have many morally ambigious choices that actually affect the storyline instead of affecting what a character(s) will say to you.

Also you could have full blown secks many times which is always a win.

The lack of character customization did suck though

Olha que não. É uma questão de te habituares. ;)

But can't you get SC2 US edition directly from Battle.net?

DA:O wasn't really dark fantasy and I don't need DA2 to try it either. High fantasy is alright with me if they can just step out of Tolkien's shadow.

I honestly can't envision Bioware doing dark fantasy anyway. It's not their style. Dark fantasy will be a niche for TW2 to fill.

Well, I'd prefer dwarves and elves to the many weird and generic races one can find in many JRPGs. Heck, even though they are good games, I hesitate to actually call them RPGs, just because, to me, an RPG is all about moulding your own character, making choices with that character, and seeing that character's personality develop in the way that you intended.

Also, I believe DA2 will not be about fighting an ancient evil, or saving the world, so if that is something you didn't like about DA, then it won't be a worry anymore.

what mecha tengu is trying to say is JRPG rule and WRPG suck. Because to get a compelling story and emotional scenes you need ten year old heros with pink hair and swords as big as mount Fuji

so yes, it's that discussion again

expand your view, and try other games

youd realize there exists other innovative games where people can actually use their imagination to create entirely different worlds and concepts, without elves even! (yes I know absolutely ridicolous)

Lol...can you say ME2?

I'm sorry, I don't want to start a flame war here, but this is so true. As good as their writing is, Bioware could use some improvement in this area.

If you don´t mind graphics, try Spiderweb software games for no Tolkien races and grey and grey morality (at best).
I would be surprised if there are no JRPGs about dreams or time travel, but I don´t think that´s what you meant.

never said that, JRPGs aren't even RPGs at all, just games with interactive movies.

Just as you think that I am a JRPG fanboy, you maybe a WRPG fanboy? No, I'm just tired of western concepts being recycled until nothing good is left

One thing in the Witcher that I found more intriguing were the factions. I found the conspiracy of Salamandra, The Order, and the Scoiatael more interesting than the warring factions (Grey Wardens, Loghain, Harrowmont/Bhelen, Dalish) in Dragon Age - but that's because in the Witcher, fighting generic evil monsters and saving the world wasn't the main goal.

Not saying that DA:O's plot wasn't good, but the involvement with the major groups became oversimplified towards doing favors, killing monsters, and getting the treaties honored,

tell me your favorite rpg's then. If wrpgs feel americanized and jrpgs are interactive movies, what's left for you?

I liked most JPRGS and most American RPGS actually

this arguement was of comparing Dragon Age to the witcher, and I felt that Dragon Age was too familiar to most other fantasy archetypes, while The Witcher was quite unique and interesting

Witcher has elves in a place not unlike DA does. Really the Witcher and DA have more in common than not.

I completely agree with the OP, and The Witcher actually felt much more the dark and mature fantasy than DA:O, and they also weren't afraid to use profanity. I just hope DA 2 actually achieves that epic dark fantasy vibe that DA:O failed to. I still think DA:O is the better game though and enjoyed most of the lore better than the Witchers, even though the witcher was very unique in some aspects.

I...just downloaded the game from Steam and now am about to play. I wasn't going to get it, but plenty of people here seemed to like it, and I heard BioWare recommended it, so...

Off I go to get a validated opinion on the matter!
