While I do wish Ashley and Kaidan (among others) had been in this poll, isn't it just the poll of one Bioware employee? I'm not sure that it reflects the attitude of Bioware in general.

So they haven't included your favourite ME1 characters in a poll about ME2 characters, so what? How is this an issue?



Looking at the poll, they've included ME2 squadmates, ME2-exclusive characters (EDI, Illusive Man, Harbinger) and characters with large roles in both games, rather than cameos (Joker and Liara, whose story DLC for ME2 was announced before this poll).



Why would Ash and Kaiden be included in the poll? The only characters from ME1 that feature in this are Garrus and Tali (both squadmates), Joker (a main character who becomes playable at one point) and Liara, who is there thanks to the recently announced DLC and therefore has as much right to be included as Kasumi.



I don't see why Ash, Kaiden or Wrex would be included in this ME2-specific poll. They had cameos, nothing more. Or are you all simply a bit peeved that their appearances in 2 was restricted to cameos? In which case, that has nothing to do with this poll.



And please don't all start crying 'TROLL!", you're better than that. I'm simply interested to know what merits Ashley, Kaiden and Wrex being included in a poll that is quite clearly for ME2 characters?

@kinedave - i can only answer for myself but ash, kaidan, wrex et al were characters in the me2 game. the poll did not specify length of appearance. unless bioware is saying that the omitted characters are not characters anymore and therefore nonexistent.

I don't think it's as cynical as that, tbf. I imagine it's as simple as Bioware don't consider them to be 'main' characters from ME2. Or at least the creator of the poll didn't. Which I can completely understand.



The lack of true carry over from 1 to 2 was one of the biggest failings of Mass Effect 2, and the lack of interaction with Ashley and Kaiden is a large part of that.



Liara and Wrex I can kind of understand, from the plot's point of view they've got their own business to be going on with, but the way A&K were used in 2 was disappointing.



However, for that reason, I just don't think this poll is the right place to be angry at Bioware, or to expect an explanation.

As many have said, it's part of a list of things where the VS fans have been completely ignored. So far we have:



- A cameo where the animations are extremely poorly done (crossed eyes etc)

- Lines that are shared between the two characters that replace one or two words to make them seem like they're different.

- Liara has a comic and a dlc. The VS has been mostly ignored after ME1.

- The VS is completely left out of Kasumi's little insights whereas she mentions Liara and her romance to the player.



This poll is an official poll, and while some of us might not get a shirt or whatnot, we're upset at being left out again. Fans of the VS and Wrex have been continually ignored and it makes us all wonder if we should expect the same come ME3.

I hate the fact that Liara has a comic, but neither Ashley, Kaidan or Wrex do. I would love to find out how Ashley/Kaidan got promoted, and how Wrex came back to Tuchanka to do what he does there...



As for the DLC, I'm hoping they'll release some for the VS and Wrex so I won't complain... Yet.

@kinedave - you're welcome.  unfortunately i'm not as prolific as everyone else around here.  anyway, i'm not angry at bioware or cynical.  however, i very much consider ash, kaidan, morinth, samara, wrex and so on more important to the plot than some of the ones on the poll.  that's why i thnk it was the poll maker's favorites.  mordin was added later.  he even slighted one dlc character while including the other.  that's cherry picking.  i want character equality. 

after casey hudson suggested fanart was the reason certain characters were given roles in me2, i'm loudly proclaiming my love for forgotten characters until the developers get sick of me.  i can't draw or write so that's all i can offer.  i'm not gonna sit quietly on the sidelines anymore.

this is slightly kinda off topic but it does kinda fall under neglecting of characters, where are the rest of the alternate appearance packs? am i right in that there has only been one released with 3 costumes? seems a long time ago it was released.

The other characters saw the appearence packs and threatened to go on strike. 

Seriously, Bioware?  Sunglasses inside a space ship?  Is the future that bright? You have to wear shades?

So are Kaidan and Ashley fans being told that we're wrong for liking them, and we flat out picked the wrong characters to romance, if we wanted a satisfying conclusion in that department for Shepard's story? I can buy that a good story can have a dark middle section, but for all the other people who have chosen a love interest other than Kaidan or Ashley, there were no consequences to working with Cerberus. They all got the cool ship, the awesome crew, and cuddle time with their chosen love interest at the end of this part of the story. Liara fans are about to, hopefully, get the same kind of reward. Are Kaidan and Ashley fans going to continue to be ignored and dismissed, in the name of "emotionally engaging story telling?" Because ME2 hasn't delivered in that department for me, yet.





I will be incredibly disappointed if by the time ME3 comes around, we learn that Kaidan and Ashley fans really did make the "wrong" choice, because they are not as popular or flashy as other characters. Please let the fans know that you are listening, Bioware.

It's hard to keep hoping with no comment from Bioware and another DLC, one that involves a ME1 squadmate no less, without any mention of Kaidan or Ashley.

I'm not bitter about it. It's their IP and they can do with it what they want. I do get the feeling that Ashley or Kaidan are not one of their pet characters in the Mass Effect story, so they just blow over them. Liara is a fav (the almost forced LI with her in ME1, much like Tali in ME2), Tali a fav, Garrus, and the two new additions: Jack and Miranda.

Just my opinion of course and nothing I lose too much sleep over.

You realise we're currently in part two of a three part story? I'd wait until the credits for Mass Effect 3 roll before you start whinging about closure.



There's obviously something in the works for Kaidan/Ashley, which will either play out in an unannounced DLC or ME3.

I think Bioware are as likely to just do another Liara mission DLC as they are to do any kind of Ashley/Kaidan continuation.
