I vote cornrows, they look almost ceremonial with that beard and give the impression that this is a dwarf noble who commands respect. The bald dwarf looks like a front-line fodder.

I vote cornrows, and for lowering the eyebrows just a little.

Definately bald. The beards look a bit strange with bald hair, though, mainly because they end so abruptly. But still - bald.

Why do dwarfs have to look mean?Hes a noble not a commoner so its ok.
You just posted why I'm not exactly sure of his hair. He's regal who was dishonoured. Slayer tradition says that he must get:
a Mohawk (which isn't available)
dye his hair/beard red
get facial tattoo's
and seek his death in battle fighting the strongest enemy he can find.
Will he go beserk (in which case a fierce appearance is appropiate) or will he still be the general he was trained to be (in which case I like his face fine)? And while I think bald gives him a more regal/experienced appearance I
have to agree with Balgin Stondraeg/Rivie, the tattoo's end too abrubtly for bald.
As for a fiercer look
Old looks

New looks

Now lowering the eyebrows does seem give him a bit fiercer look.
On the otherhand if I play around with the portrait expressions getting an agressive look is simple. So I guess that the face is good enough for me.

So I'm going to keep this topic open for hopefully some more comments.
Score so far:
Bald: 12
Cornrows: 16
Thanks to everyone for their input.

That questiong and advice will come from what are you trying to do with the dwarf? A noble commander? A warrior of honor? For me they both have there perks to them. The bald shows a wisdom and age that would be fitting to a commander a reagle proud dwarf that stands at the forfrunt of the lines of the armys. To be a sight of moral for the common and uncommon warriors.
The cornrows are fitting for a warriors heart. A man that seeks a honorable fight but isnt fearful of the rage so many are scared of in battle. The focus is in his eyes not his hair. He shows a presence that would give off a feeling to the foe "I am not alone, and I am not fearful of you"
So with that said it would be what you would want that dwarf to be. Wisdom in battle and war is a wonderful thing. But so is the unfearful gaze and look of a raged focused warrior. (just because a warrior can or could become berserk doesnt mean they will be unfocused in battle)
Dont let the tallys and the votes be a stone to set it on. Be it what you see the dwarf as...though then again Gruthgar the dwarven warrior that I have would befriend that dwarf there with out a single thought of hair type...
But I guess thats a very middle of the road answer to the question on hand. But its the best I can give you Calibisto. How ever he may look. May he place fear in the hearts of his foe and be a moral boost to his friends!

I'd pick the cornrows - especially if you are going with the portrait expression you posted. The cornrows suit that expression better (in my opinion).

The Cornrows seem to fit better with the tatoo, since without hair the forehead portion of the tatoo seems to end abruptly.
