In DA:O I tended to customize my characters and then later pick the best voice to fit my design. Since DA2 will have a set voice, I'm wondering how many people plan on customizing their Hawke around the voice this time; or are you planing on customizing your character however you see fit?

I would only customize based on Hawke's voice if it was a really distinct voice. I have a feeling the voice will be middle-of-the-road enough that I'll be able to make my character look any way I want to.

I would think that after a while, any custom made face you play with will eventually be set in your mind as "the face that goes with that voice" so I wouldn't really worry about it but just make a face you like.

For instance, when I played mass effect I used the standard male shepperd. Afterwards I tried to play a new game with a custom made face I had made but I just couldn't. It felt weird to hear the same voice but not see that standard male shepperd face,

I hope you get my point

I understand what you are getting at, but there are character designs out there that do not exactly match certain voices.

Cailan? That would actually be pretty cool.

I think one person said he had a Cailan-ish quality to his voice, and then another added somewhere else that they didn't see that at all.

General consensus is that they like his voice.

Same here.  I've already got a pretty clear idea of what my female mage Hawke might look and act like, and unless the voice is all nice and sweet and ditzy, I'm sure I can interpret it to fit the personality I've got in mind.  FemShep and Sheploo's voices were pretty middling, even though since I never play male Shepard, I can't picture anyone but Sheploo with Meer's voice for MShep.

God, let's hope not nice and sweet and ditzy. *Hawke wishes to model swimsuits. Also, world peace* GAME OVER.

I won't mind it really, whose to say a clean shaven young warrior with a heroic look won't have an experienced voice, people are surprised when I talk by the sheer, unexpected depth of my voice. I once made a dwarf who had a huge beard, gruff/grizzeled appearance and face brand and gave him a wise voice, it worked out fine. I don't think appearance has any affect on one's voice, nor do I believe a character's appearance should be altered dramatically just to fit his/her voice. On one last note, my wife has a friend whose a skinny blonde girl, whom you would expect to have a light and girly voice, to the contrary when she opens her mouth she bellows like a man.

That's okay at the beginning of the game, but then an inexperienced voice would be less convincing as the game progresses. Unless, of course, the actor is good enough for his/her voice to evolve alongside Hawke as he/she becomes more powerful, which would be excellent.

Posted ImagePosted ImageMaybe, but I didn't necessarily mean average-sounding; I just mean that the voice strongly suggests a certain personality or look down your throat.  Did you hear the voice?  If so, what were your impressions? I'd be interested in hearing them.

From the SDCC demo, we got a good dose of male Hawke (who has since been rerecorded with a deeper inflection). It does sound like Cailan, but it also sounds very "middle of the road". It didn't sound like it could have come from the default Hawke body.

This was exactly my problem!  I beat the game once with the default shepard, and no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't make another one for the bionic achievements ...

I wish there was a way to "test" your characters voice in DA2 as there was in DAO with the voice section of the character creation/customisation.

I created Shepard to fit the voice in ME

but it would be nice if we could shape the voice to fit our character instead, just as in Phantasy Star Universe, especially in games like Dragon Age

No I never make characters to fit voices. I never really bothered making my characters look like their families in Origins either. I played as FemShep in the ME games and I can't really imagine any face you could make with the character creator not fitting the voice, but Shep seems to kind of have the same basic look no matter what you choose (unless you use Sheploo). I hope we have the kind of variation we had in DAO as opposed to ME1/2.
