I have a 4870 with Catalyst 10.6 and the drivers stopped responding trying to watch the video.  I tried again and it led to a physical memory dump.  The world hates ATI :crying:.

I have ATI, and this happened to me aswell. I'm glad I'm not the only one. :P

Please try updating to catalyst 10.7a  - looks like that is a 10.6 and lesser  specific
driver bug

hope that helps. :wizard:

Since Mike mentions a default canon storyline for the new players, I presume that it's based on the default canon for the Orlesian Warden's storyline in Awakening? Only with more details than whatever the default canon in Awakening gave us -- yes, I haven't gotten around to playing it yet, woe is me.

Best parts of DA:O was Leliana, Morrigan, converstations and camp, Mr. Laidlaw! Certainly not combat! Are those becoming better in DA2?

Exactly. Dragon Age 1 was a great game because it was a great RPG, not combat game!

Awww for God's sake, you want to start some war or something? Default != canon. Yet.

I only saw the troll fight from the movie (and wished the one in ROTK had been like that instead of Strider almost getting killed again),but there´s nothing like that in the comic. I think historical spartans were wise enough to use armor though, fighting in loincloth and shield crosses the line to stupidity.
Hope the PC combat stays mostly as it was, and please, if this time I leave the mage and archer a few meters back before talking to a possible enemy, leave them there!!!!!!

In fairness the comic was yes enjoyable but i find i cannot enjoy it as i used to due to that monstrosity of a film. But teh film gah..... specially its stop start filming gives me a sodding migraine. Then everyone under the sun decided all fights should be filmed like that.

But on topic to call this shedding light on it is a tad.... optimistic there was maybe 30 seconds worth in the whole clip that we havent heard a dozen times from a dozen sources.

Well they do describe DA as the spiritual successor to Balders Gate, after all.

I've been pronouncing Lothering wrong this whole time apparently.
I've been saying loh-thering. Darrah pronounced it lah-thering... huh.

aaaand that was the only new thing I learned.

Okay. Here are my thoughts on Word of God:

When every character in-universe contradicts things claimed out-of-universe, in-universe trumps them. All of the characters refer to the place as loh-thering, so that's it's name. Honestly, I think he just made a mistake (I actually don't remember how he pronounced it, so I'm taking your word for it). But you needed my two cents, didn't ya? :D

sorry... i guess my sarcasm wasn't very visible

Overall, I'm optimistic about pretty much everything they said. It's nice that the theme of DA2, one of building your legacy, provides a different emphasis than DA:O. It sounds like much will be changed and I'm ok with that.

I'm glad they are balancing classes too. I know some prefer a classless system, but I think having distinct classes helps replay value.

Combat sounds like it will be good on both platforms, and why not? There's no reason for either platform to get gimped.

Only thing that seems vague to me is the framed narrative. Not sure how that will play out.

Sounds like DA2 is a self contained story experiment while trying to be a more actiony game, at least on the consoles.

For the first part, it has potential to be good and bad. I have never seen a story with that style narrative work in a video game. It's pulled off well in a movie or book rarely but when it does, it's fantastic.

The second point, I'm just worried the console bro fighting style will spill over into the pc version. I understand they want to sell more games and if it doesn't effect my preferred platform, fine, go for it.

i really looking forward to DA2. i'm not a hardcore rpg-player. DA:O was a great game, but the combat was too slow for me. Faster gameplay plus all the cool bioware stuff like epic story, party interaction and great atmosphare. Sounds like another awesome game from bioware :)

I agree.  DA2's narrative experiment could either work really well or really....not well at all.  The framed narrative is very popular in film and books, but I'm with you on video games--I've never seen it done particularly well.  And when you factor in the fact that this is an interactive narrative, BioWare have got a lot of design issues to tackle.

And let's be honestly frank here: the only way for game developers to experiment is through the games themselves.

Maybe it's me, but the rise of Hawke sounds like a pointless game. They have already said that there won't be a "big bad" like the Archdemon, so what is the story supposed to be? Are they going to focus more on Hawke as opposed to the mysteries that were unanswered from the first game (Is there actually a "Maker", what's happened to Morrigan and the baby, The Black City, The state of the Chantry, Mages, and the Templars)? That's what I want to know. Because a focus on Hawke's rise to power seems a tad boring.
