Please, for the next awesome new information you give about DA2, could you like break it here as opposed to some magazine first?

I realise they may pay a huge incentive otherwise for the exclusive, but surely one 'exclusive' mentioned first on the 'BioWare SocialNetwork' would be absolutely awesome too right?

No offense, but I think it's more a matter of reaching a larger audience than anything else. There's, what? A few thousand people that come to these forums at any given time? And of those only a percentage that actually pay attention to a particular announcement thread? Magazines or websites can reach a much larger audience in a more noticeable manner, and an audience that isn't necessarily already up-to-date on everything we're doing.

I'm not aware of the exact process by which such news goes out, but I doubt it's a matter of those media outlets paying us as opposed to offering us more noticeable coverage in their magazine/website in exchange for exclusives/interviews/screenshots and such... and that's probably not even always the case. Normally it's an even exchange: they give us what we want (exposure) in return for something they want (info their readership/viewership is interested in).

We're always going to relay announcements here to you guys as well, but I don't think it's a stretch to say that these forums aren't really the most effective place to make them. Not unless it's an announcement that concerns the forums directly.

Exclusives come about solely because someone paid a  ton of cash for the rights, that's all. It's the same way with all forms of media.

I don't think so. My impression is that exclusives come about because a media outlet promised to give the game better coverage-- they put it on the cover/front page of a website, do a larger article, etc. I think it's odd that someone would think they pay us... you'd almost think it'd be the other way around, no? Or does that particular theory only come into play when it's time for a review score? Posted Image

People are free to think what they like, and I've no special insight (not being part of marketing), but my impression of the whole process is that there's very little nefariousness to it.

I think what you're doing marketing-wise makes sense, but you seem to be at least underestimating the importance of online gaming websites (including your own community via linking from other places) and word of mouth. Pushing for a slightly more balanced approach in the coming months might improve both reach and enthusiasm.

Err... do we traditionally shy away from online sites? I don't think we do. So unless you're looking at our one magazine announcement which has gone out so far and inferring an overall marketing strategy I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

While I'm sure our marketers appreciate the assistance, I'm pretty sure they're looking at the subscriber base for any magazine and viewership for any online site and the crossover of their respective audiences to make sure that information about the game reaches as far and wide as possible. It's the job of the people on these forums, meanwhile, to monitor that information as it's disseminated and complain at how much of it is all the same stuff. Posted Image

The only thing I would like in regard to the topic discussed is for Bioware to come over at the toolset forum and post there first about if there is a toolset for DA2 or not. The people that are interested more about that are already there. I'd hate to learn it from the last question in a interview that one of the two Biowarian's salesman are going to give somewhere.

Yes, we recognize that everyone wants the answer to every question RIGHT NOW.

Sorry, but you're going to have to wait-- as usual.
