Damn... well, anyhow, what is the most underrated talent in the game? For me it must be Below the belt. At level 19 my rogue is now dealing between 85 and 90 damage for each kick. I've kicked Kolgrim, drakes and what not into oblivion with this talent

Off the top of my thoughts, it would be Stone Fist; a Nature chiseled spell blast that almost always takes foes off their feet. It may not do as much dmg as other spells, but it has saved the party many times in my experience.

Heroic Aura. It's a buff, but not getting nibbled to death by arrows in Haven or attacking Fort Drakon is just lovely.

Each talent has a specific use and depening upon how each character is built you may have a few talents/spells that are underrated or not used at all.

One talent I hate and do not use myself is earth quake; I find it useless and always try to get Wynne early so she will NOT have this spell.

One spell I under rated for my first 3 play through was the hexes. After my last playthrough with Morrigan hexing all bosses I will never under rate that spell. It is by far now my most favorite spell along with the elemental spells. I find that if you pick one elemental spell catergory and another spell from one of the elemental schools you should do more than alright throughout DAO when you start using other spells.

Some good suggestions here. I haven't done many mage playthroughs but must admit that I tended to think that those buffs and debuffs and various hexes were not powerful or useful enough for my liking. But I will try them out the next time.

Stonefist or Fireball.

The Fire tree itself is much better than people give it credit for.

< My arcane mage uses mostly from the spirit tree, and those are not that considered to be underrated...

But I do agree on the Stonefist, I also really like feint for rogues...., Grease is awesome too (minus the fire combo....)

The first spell in the fire tree I thought was useless but after using it with Wynne I find it very useful.

What you are describing is  your rogue's normal attack damage.  You'd have done that much by simply attacking without using that talent

But while we're on the subject of rogue talents, I got one:  Dirty fighting.  An instant, non-resistable stun.  And you get it at the start of the game.

@Yrkoon: Well, actually not. The damage from the kick is on par with a critical hit for my rogue archer. Maybe it's because of the dex (and strength) bug which doesn't add proper damage to bows on console. In addition, Below the belt is triggered instantly (no aim time) and, I believe, a guaranteed hit whereas you may miss with the bow.

Petrify is utterly fantastic. Wynne's frozen red-level ogres and Uldred with it.

I'm pretty sure I've seen it resisted. Whether it's meant to be or not.

Yeah, it's 'resisted'  by those who are immune to stun - like 2-h hurlocks with indomitable activated.

Mosts under-rated talent Ive encountered is that shield spell by Mages. The one that makes a target invulnerable. I realized that you could use it on party-members instead of enemies. My Healer got it as soon as possible.

Lightbulb moment. Use the shield on Tank then use massive AoE damaging spells.

Champion/Reaver Spec Two Hand Tank.....Warcry, Two Hand Sweep, Aura of Pain. You could also do similar with Templar/Reaver just switch Warcry for Holy Smite.

Are you kidding?  I love Earthquake.  Use it in combination with Blizzard or Inferno.  Drop the Blizz/Inferno on the enemy mobs and then an Earthquake then sit back and watch while they stumble/fall in Blizz/Inferno.  By the time they get to you, they're at half health or less.  Posted Image

Gotta agree with Stonefist. I use it against mage bosses as an opener. The chance to knockback is high, giving my rogue and tank enough time to get close.

I don't think fireball is underrated. It's so OP I wish it had a couple of seconds casting time.

Fireball, Chain Lightning, Curse of Mortality, Misdirection Hex, Crushing Prison.

Two Handed Sweep was an attack that often backfired and knocked me back for some reason. I don't know if that is a bug or some big "**** you" from Bioware to those with two handed weapons, but THS gets on my nerves often.

I am really starting to like Below the Belt - very underrated. It is a very fast animation - at 1 second. Comes with a +5 to hit and debuffs the target defense by 10 and applies a movement penality for 10 seconds. A good talent to fall back on - especially if you are a cunning Rogue and a monster is giving you agro.

BTW, if you have strength to do it you can even switch to a large single weapon and still get that fast attack animation, but bigger damage numbers.
