Basically, I picked a sorcerer because I was going to run through the game fast, bored in my vacation, so I just needed maxiumum firepower. While playing however, I have rediscovered my old love for the mage, or here Wizard, and I remenisce about the days where I could memorize spells that fit the occation, so basically, I have a savegame, at the Greycloaks camp in Chapter One, and I do not want to go through the whole chapter again with a new character, so I need info on how I would go about replacing the character I have in the save with a new one, or in another way am able to put a  new character in and start around the same place.

I plan to use a trainer or something to get a wizard up to level 7 as my sorcerer is now. Thanks in advance

First, get this:

http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=1288

I wrote a small treatise about this on the old forum, but I just can't find it. I really should have saved that one. grrrr.

Once you have LETO installed and have your new character basically matching the old one as far as xp and appearance goes, you're going to use LETO to move data from the new character N to the old character O. N will be found as N.bic in your localvault folder; the O you will be changing is embedded in playerlist.ifo in the saved game folder that you will have backed up before you even look in it.

p.s. For both characters, take off all gear, rest completely, dispel any enchantments etc. before saving. I think you should probably hand your shards to someone else, too.

You're going to launch two instances of LETO, load N.bic into one (by using MENU/tools/advanced editor) and playerinfo.bic into the other. Then copy from N to O.  I launch LETO in administrator mode to avoid problems with file permissions.

Most of this like your stats, saving throws, etc. are simply copied over straight. A few things require a different approach.

Just past halfway you'll see classList, LvlStatList, SkillList, and FeatList. Each of these should be imported instead of copied. Select classList on N.bic, right-click and choose Export List. Save it with a filename (I use 1.bic). Now in O's window (playerlist.ifo, remember) select Entry 0 at the top, right-click and choose Import List, choose 1.bic or whatever and say yes when it asks if you want to overwrite. You should now see classList at the bottom of O's file. Repeat for LvlStatList, SkillList, and FeatList (2.bic, 3.bic, and 4.bic for me). Now select Entry 0 for O one more time, right-click and Save File. Press on despite the warning - YOU DID BACK THIS UP, RIGHT? - and you should be good to go.

I just learned something about this forum...

It doesn't like you to type classList with a capital C. It threw me out, then it changed them all to lower case. hmmm.

If anyone should come across this (via GOOGLE for example), there are a couple of errors up there.  I'll just quote myself from a different thread:

I_Raps wrote...

Okay.  I've done this dozens of times probably, but with companions, not PCs.  So I wondered maybe there's something I'm forgetting about PCs.  So I pulled out a saved game and an old level 1 character from my Local Vault and changed the Level 10 Human Warlock in the save to a Level 1 Halfling Rogue (with enough experience to immediately level to 10) without a hitch.  But I did it from memory...
So I concluded that there must be something wrong with the instructions - either my writing or your reading.  So I looked...
HORRORS!  What a batch of typos.  Posted Image

This, you no doubt found, is impossible because playerinfo.bic does not exist.  The file from the saved game that you need to modify is playerlist.ifo.

Also, I wrote:

This is simply, utterly wrong.  You need to expand out Entry 0 and Mod_PlayerList and select Entry 1 to Import the four lists.  That is, when done those four lists must be aligned with everything else under Entry 1.  But then just as important select Entry 0 at the end when you save the file.

I wonder why Xeniues never got back to me about this.  He mentioned he was an old hand so maybe he already had experience with LETO and figured out my error.  I hope.  Posted Image
