I wasn´t impressed with Kotor. I was spoiled, but the first thing I thought when i read it was if hitting Palpatine hard enough on the head and Jedi brainwashing would give him a clean slate. Dark Side felt like corrupting one´s very soul in the movies.
JE however...what seemed like little mistakes were revealed to be part of an almost perfect plan. Still my favorite plot twist.

How about: the Maker is a Reaper, and all of Thedas just a virtual reality simulation, with all the beings in it (Hawke and the Warden included) AI of various 'levels'/complexity?

Collectors being protheans is hardly gonna spoil the story lol. But yes, I probably shouldn't be posting spoilers. Apologies, I know from experience how annoying it is.Sneelonz wrote...

The best plot twists in Bioware games so far have been in Kotor and Jade Empire. ME and DA haven't had any which is a shame.

Big plot twists. I don't understand some people...
Thanks for spoiling it for me. <_<

Superior plot twist.
No Hawke, you are the Darkspawn. And then Hawke was a darkspawn.
this would be the coolest plot twist ever!

Since DA2 uses a framed narrative and spans 10 years, there will be a lot things happening off screen and the story the Narrator tells might not be what really happened.
I think it would be really cool if there was a plot twist where Hawke actually did things quite differently from what the public knows. For example, let's say in a spy story you're searching for a mole and in the end in turns out you ARE the mole, just that things happened off screen that the player knows nothing about (I know this sounds stupid written like this, but it would be really cool if executed/directed well)
I'm going to have to disagree with the offscreen plot twist for one major reason: it cuts out player agency. The twists in KOTOR, BG, JE, and arguably the ME games were things that the main character could not conceivably influence or change. It might throw the player for a loop, but it doesn't limit player agency any more than the normal boundaries of a game do. However, Hawke doing something twist-y off-screen would be like if the Dark Ritual in DA:O happened offscreen without the player's knowledge, consent, or approval. If the twist is something your CHARACTER could conceivably influence, doing it off-screen risks breaking player immersion--if it's something your character would never do--and reduces player choice, one of the key components to an RPG.

you could still be evil in kotor, which i thought made the plot twist even cooler
made it alot more fun in korriban, telling uthar i was revan and then him promising to serve me
jade empires plot twist was probably the best one in any bioware game though, just replaying it and there are all the little details which fit in really well

I'm really hoping they don't spoil too much in the trailers. They could have easily kept the Cailan death and Loghain as the villain secret but one trailer even showed the Landsmeet and fight with Loghain which happens very late in the game. Even though they wouldn't necessarily be big twists like in kotor they ruined a lot of cool little surprises in the trailers.
Maybe I'm just paranoid, but Loghain's betrayal was far from a spoiler for me. Same with Howe's general d-baggery, which wasn't in any trailer. I just kind of looked at them and went, "Well, you're ugly and everyone else is pretty, and you're old and bitter. Yep, I'm going to be killing you in the end-game!"

This.
Sadly, most of the whiners who can't appreciate a good story even if it was shoved right in their face would complain, because then it wouldn't be "their Hawke". Probably the same people who couldn't appreciate the endings of Shadow of the Colossus or the recent Prince of Persia (the 2008 one), but also don't see how Hawke will be no less "their character" than the Warden, Revan or Gorion's Ward.

Well the human origin trailer showed "an attack" and then screenshots where the enemies were called "Howe soldier" started showing up and I put the two together
I was very envious when I watched my boyfriend (who knew nothing about the game) play and he was shocked to see Jory and Daveth get killed and Cailan's death (he was convinced the plot would revolve around helping Cailan) and Loghain's betrayal. The first few hours were a rollercoaster for him
