My brand spanking new xBox died.  I'm about to send it back.

I've still got the old xBox (it was GOING to live in my kid's room) - it just returned from repair just days ago. It's blank, of course.

I've bought pretty much all the DLC for DA:O, DA:A, ME:2, etc (though I have Awakenings on disc) plus the free nifties that BioWare/EA handed out for doing whatnot online.

If I download the DLC and free nifties to the old xBox and play it for the month that the new one is in repair, keep my profile and game saves on a memory stick, and then download the DLC again to the new xBox when it comes back in a month, am I going to ****** off the software licensing gods?

How do I avoid that?  What's the best way to manage this?  I'm not trying to get away with something, I just want to play the games I bought.

Thanks for your kind assistance!

There shouldn't be a problem. As long as you're signed into the profile you used to originally purchase the DLC, you should be able to re-download it as many times as you want without a problem. Enjoy.

The DLCs are always licensed to the gamertag and the console they are first downloaded on. While you can download these DLCs on another console the licenses won't change which means you won't be able to play these DLCs while disconnected from XBL. What you need to do is perform a license transfer.

This page is both where you do it and it has a video on the left with Major Nelson explaining how:

Thanks for the advice! In the FAQ for XBox License Migration, it says you can only use that tool once every 12 months. (It also seems to affect all licneses, yes? I have a butt-ton of RockBand songs I'd rather not mess with during the down time. Surely.)

Has anyone run into a problem using it more than once in 12 months? Is it best to avoid that for now, you think?

Thanks again!

I only did it once so I haven't run into the issue of needing to use it more than once in 12 months and that was about a year and a half ago. If you get a new slim....which is supposed to be very unlikely to break...then you should be fine with one license transfer. And even then if your console does happen to break contacting MS support to get it repaired should spare you the trouble of needing another license transfer and they're good as gold on their warranties.....1 year for anything free, you can purchase a second year of warranty for anything fairly cheap when you buy the console and it has an automaic 3 year coverage for RRODs and E-74 errors.
