Apparently Inon Zur did a pretty good job on some of his previous works, although the only familiarity I have with them is from the NWN CMP I downloaded a while ago, as I've never played anything of his prior to DAO. As for his DAO soundtrack, it was alright, except it suffered IMO from a similar issue to the one I brought up about Morrowind-- there's not enough of it. And, I dunno, I found it to be kind of less memorable overall. I still remember the main Morrowind theme pretty vividly, but I have to think for a moment to remember DAO's.
I'm a big fan of the work Alexander Brandon did on the NWN2 expansions. (And perhaps
*-- okay, there were most likely more than three tracks, but my point remains.

And I'll plug the vocalist one more time: her songs were the one part of the soundtrack that really created an instantly identifiable tone.

Since they're changing seemingly everything else though, I wonder even if they bring Inon Zur back if they're going to make the music sound different? I liked Zur's work in Origins, I just would have preferred more distinct character or level themes....

Inon Zur... I really was fond of Throne of Bhaal, and Fallout 3, but somehow for DAO I just didn't love the soundtrack as a whole. Not sure why. It just wasn't as good a fit as I might have hoped.
A part of me wants to see him try again, and another wants to see a composer whose recent work I loved to death. Maybe he just needs a partner for a game this big so his talents aren't stretched as thin? If he could work together with Alexander Brandon, I think I would have nerdgasms.

Very nice. I can only hope there are portions of the game that call for calm, pretty music like that in addition to battle scene after battle scene.Preston C wrote...
I like this one by Soule:
I did like the soundtrack to DAO for the most part, so I wouldn't mind having the same guy, but I do think Hans Zimmer would be excellent. Especially music like this:
I also really liked James Horner's work on Avatar:

My favorite soundracks to date are The Truman Show (Philip Glass/Burkhard Dallwitz) and The Assassination of Jesse James (Nick Cave/Warren Ellis), but I don't think those really fit the "mood" of DA2 (or rather, what I expect the mood will be).

I liked the music for DA:O. So, yeah, I'd prefer if they got Inon Zur to do it again.
Otherwise, I'd like to see Brian Tyler (Children of Dune) do the soundtrack. Or Yoko Kanno (Ghost in the Shell: SAC, SAC 2nd Gig, and SAC:SSS).
Seconded on Brian Tyler. The Children of Dune score is one of my favorites.

anyone know who did the baldur's gate 1 & 2 music? i love the music from those games, and i think someone with that skill could make darker music for a dragon age title......
Michael Hoenig, I think.

Yeah, some quieter yet still powerful music is always nice to have- like this stuff from The Assassination of Jesse James- gets me every time: Song for Bob
Nick Cave and Warren Ellis' stuff is pretty fantastic overall- they know how to make a unique sound- like in The Proposition.

Yeah, Zimmer has done some of his best work as of late I'd say- his score for MW2 redeemed that game for me. I'd love it if Two Steps From Hell helped out too- Undying Love is an epic track that would fit in for a tragic sort of ending I guess. If I'm not mistaken some of the composers from Two Steps From Hell even contributed to Zimmer's work on MW2.
Just take this trailer from Origins, get rid of the goofy "This Is War" track and throw in some Two Steps from Hell, its instantly 10X better!

Jesper Kyd, some of Assassin's Creed 2... Check out the soundtrack, some truly good tracks that'd fit right into this world.
One thing to keep in mind - while the opening from DAO is iconic to the series according to Bioware, this game will take place in a different part of the world and the music will probably match that.
"This Is War" is not a bad track. It was, however, something that was definetly FAR more suited to, say Mass Effect games than DA, however.

I agree with a lot of what you write. I love calm and pleasant music throughout the parts of the game where it should be. I like a good vocalist, ethnic, new age, and of course classical, etc. I like it going all the time, during the non-battle parts. Which, concerning music, seems to be more rare in RPG's these days- at least to my mind.SirOccam wrote...

I, too, liked the DAO OST. I have no problem with Inon Zur staying on board. I would like constant music though, and perhaps a icon to turn it off if needed?
Either way, if Hans Zimmer came aboard, I think we might all jump for joy. Yes, James Horner's work on Avatar was good, imo. I like the main theme or melody- it is deep.
If Hans ever did come aboard (which I imagine is next to somekind of impossibility) hopefully he would work with this singer:
