Thedas might not appreciate elves but that doesn't mean that we can't.

City elves, Dalish, mages, assassins, you name it, if it's elven it's on-topic.

Which was your favorite origin? What drew you to this race? Who did you romance and why? 'Insert other elf-relevant questions here'?

So start posting! Posted Image

I'll be brave then. *ahem*

Initially I was drawn to DA elves because of their differences to the the usual type you find in fantasy settings. I will admit (and have done before) to being a little disappointed in some aspects but not enough to stop me playing them.

City elf is my favourite origin. It underlines very heavily the way humans treat and view elves as second class citizens. I have a rather cynical view of my fellow humans and think that this is probably what would happen if elves existed in the real world.

The CE origin always gives me a nice solid base to start my PC. Whether they're angry and wanting to kill every human they see, amused by the novelty of humans doing what she tells them or merely curious to see the outside world.

I like the Dalish origin but am very disappointed that they weren't as guerrilla bandish as I was hoping. (The elf on the concept art wallpaper was more what I was after).

There's my rambling - hopefully nothing too contraversial.

Oh and - Shianni rules ;-)

City Elf is my favorite origin, period actually. Though having some issues pushing one through to completion. My Dalish was my first full playthrough, both for DA:O and DA:A.

Lyrren romanced Leliana, partially on accident, Lel asked the initiate romance question before I got to Alistair, (was looking to unlock the Rogue specializations since Lyrren's a rogue) thought for a bit then thought, eh, why not.

Odd thing, Lyrren's run was almost totally just game oriented and not RPed much at all. All my characters since then have developed personalities, but Lyrren still holds a fond place. Maybe I just need to push another elf to completion. I know my dwarf commoner (2nd completion) was a lot more enjoyable due to RP considerations.

DA elves are the only elves thus far in any fantasy setting that I know about that I actually tolerate. And while I find other races to be generally more interesting, elven history is definately something I want to know more about, specifically Arlathan.

Oh and Zevran is easily my favorite elven character thus far.

Oh, a nice present from the dwarf thread!

I'm a Tolkien elf nerd, but have also enjoyed the elven origins in DA, especially the Dalish.  I've appreciated the Dalish even more as I read the books and let my own imagination run with some of the themes the Dalish seem to draw from.  Specifically Norse and Celtic mythology, the Native American and Romani cultures, and a comparison I sometimes make in my head to the Fremen of Dune.  Also, playing a Dalish mage via the mod has opened up a lot of interesting angles for me.  It's what got me writing fanfiction, for instance, a development I sometimes regret (can you say timesink, heh) but which has been fun.

I'll try not to bleed over too much Alistair gushing here :) but just have to show my new Payroo commission.

City elves ftw! I think I have about fifteen of them so far. It's one of two origins that start with a loving family. You father actually lives, which is incredible. It's also about time that a fantasy game showed majority vs minority cultures in close proximity.

It's also pretty neat to constantly be the short person in the party then go to Orzammar. I feel so tall there!

Dalish elf origin was thus far my favorite. I picked it becuase it felt like the elves of DA were really unique and it was my frist character in DAO. And that I was one of the elves who stood by the tradition! I want to know the history of the elves, culture, because it was all lost and being Dalish elf would bring me closer to it

... And the Dalish origin was really heartbroking. You had to be seperated from your clan and had to go to human wolrd (or shemlen world as I like to say it).

I liked about elves that the humans had to earn your trust, atleast thats the way I Roleplayed my char.

Lorain romanced Alistair just to forget Tamlen. But it turned to be serious. He showed her that the humans are not that bad, then dumped her. But I still think the Zevran is better and is her best friend.

Sorry for my english, its my second language.

Anyone else reminded of this by the city elf origin, especially the intro with Duncan talking?

Woooooooooooo! Elves!

I am totally a Dalish elf - it's the first origin that I played and the one I love most, even after playing all the origins.

I have two Dalish fanfic stories currently running - one a strange little AU thing about the Dalish origin involving two Mahariel Wardens, and the second a more serious playthrough fic that explores Dalish lore and how a Dalish might function in a non-Dalish world. But yeah, like Addai said, total timesink.

My Dalish girl. <3

I had a lovely big long reply typed out about elves and why I liked them in DA:O then my internet ate it.  It's not even letting me get to elf pictures.

So I'm just going to say hurrah for elves!

The CE origin has, by far, the most impact on how I play the game. So much so that I feel almost restricted by it, in a way. Still, Soris is awesome, so I run through it often even if I don't actually keep on playing with the character.

Unfortunately, the DE origin is the opposite. I love the lore, but I don't like anyone from the origin and feel distinctly 'meh' by the time I've finished. Thus, I created The Ron F. Mahariel, who is just an awesome Dalish who is awesome and stuff. He's pro-shem, loves Morrigan, is fascinated by Shale and dwarven culture and simply rocks.

So, for my own amusement I made a photo collage of the elven characters I've played.  I was pleased at the symmetry, two elven mages and two melee, two who romanced Alistair and two Zevran...

Posted Image

... then I remembered that someone was missing, another elven mage who romanced Alistair.  She is probably what I would consider my canon character, too.  Oops!

Well, this is her, Esra Surana, or Fiona 2.0 as she was sometimes known in the Alistair thread.  She's an Andrastian and ended up Alistair's chancellor-mistress.  I wrote a little back story for her here.  Warning, a little bit heavy theme.

Hi Ron.  :wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub:

My Kara's crush on Ron is maginified by the fact that he is Dalish.  It increases his appeal about a million-fold.

My favourite elf is Ron F. Mahariel
You kind of said what I was trying to say about elves as well before my internet went all screwy on me.
CIty elf origin is my favourite, I want to like the Dalish origin and I love the idea of the Dalish but I find the way it's done in game uninspiring in comparison to the rest of the origin stories.
Also my first playthrough ever was a poor bewildered Dalish, she had no idea what she was getting herself into and eventually sacrificed herself after being cruelly dumped after the landsmeet.

I wrote this about Ron over in the Community creation thread:

Ron: He lives vicariously through himself.

He is a lover not a fighter, but he is also a fighter so dont get any ideas

His sweat cures the taint, and his tears any injury. To bad he does neither.

His organ donation card also lists he eyebrows

The Templars often question him.. just because he is so interesting

He never says anything tastes like nug. EVEN nug.

He is the most interesting Dalish in the world.

"I dont often drink ale but when I do, I perfer Tapsters¨

"Stay thirsty my friends"

-Ron.

My favorite Shianni picture is this one, both for the fact that Shianni and my Dalish PC have just discovered that they have the same stylist, and mostly for the giant. freaking. rat.  The rabbit of the alienage, yum!

I'm kind of relieved that you posted that. I chased a massive rat around the alienage the other day and couldn't remember seeing one before. I thought I'd maybe over-modded

And here I was feeling bad about myself thinking I was the only one haha.  My avatar is a city elf, though I know its pretty hard to tell because of the hairstyle.  Theres a story behind that. I'm lying. Really? I just really dig the hair.

I just want to say the dalish have the best tattoos.

I have to confess, I almost universally detest elves in pretty-much any other fantasy setting. DA made them come alive for me, and I pretty-much play them exclusively these days. I tend to be CE, but have occasioNally gone DE or Mage. And I still haven't played the CE origin as a guy - it just feels so right as a female character. Its one of the few Origins that for me was just made for a female PC. My current character is a(nother) CEF Rogue (<---), using the default name, because Kallian Tabris is an awesome name. Here's some choice screens from her adventures:

Duncan is highly concerned about his recruitment choices:
Posted Image

Fateful encounter in the Wilds:
Posted Image

Kal convinces Isolde to kill her son - 'tis a harsh reality:
Posted Image

Kal reads Avernus' notes, liking that Rogues get a passive skill from his experiments:
Posted Image

She finds the remains of Andraste, for whom she has a tacit respect.
Posted Image

Staring out a High Dragon:
Posted Image

And after killing it, asks Sten if he knows what the heck is going on in Wade's Shop. He doesn't.
Posted Image

Her current RP'd main choices are: spared the mages, killed Connor, preserved the Anvil (killing Shale in the process :(), elected Bhelen, pretended to side with the Cultists, killed them and saved the Ashes, romanced Alistair. Is likely to: Cure the Werewolves, do Morrigan's Ritual.

You should play through just the origin as a guy if nothing else because the opportunity to learn so much about Soris and Shianni, Duncan's presence, Adaia, ect. from talking to Soris, Duncan, and Valendrien is well-worth the half an hour or so.
