That armour does look pretty cool on her, there. I'm curious - for mods like that, is it already existing dialogue, silent or no dialogue, or pieced together from existing dialogue?

Mod makers sometimes use recycled dialogue, in this case it is unvoiced, just animation.  I made videos:

Dalish origin

mage origin (another elf of course Posted Image)

pre-DR mod which used recycled VO

So I had always figured that killing Zathrian after getting the heart was a betrayal but according to the VO notes he brings up Lanaya knowing what to do with it because he WANTS to die and if you have enough intelligence you can even call him on it and he confirms it. For some reason, that makes him more sympathetic to me.

I just read the VO notes for Zathrian. Interesting to say the least. I guess he does realize how horrible everything he has done is and he does feel regret. While I can't say that I feel sympathy towards him, I certainly don't view him as a monster.

The scripting comments for whether the PC has enough intelligence are unintentionally funny. For example:

APPEARS WHEN (NOT): PC is smart

So that means that my low cunning mage was an idiot? :(

And I couldn't help but laugh at some of the dialogue Shale has in that quest. I've never taken her there but I probably will next time. When you tell Zathrian that there's no need to keep him alive...

"Oh! Yes! Let me! Let me!"

Just thought I would add a picture of my city elf that I just created today! :D She is by far my favorite PC I've ever made.

Well here is my CE- Cyrus.

Fun to play an aggresive, violent short guy.

Tried to make him stand out, yet be a hard to recall face.

Flickergurl15 -  Your city elf is very pretty!  I like it when elf ears pop out.  Sometimes I wonder how people distinguish petite human females with female elves who cover their ears.

LOL I always like to make the short innocent characters be the most evil people I possibly can.

It probably helps that short humans don't seem to exist in Ferelden. Posted Image

Haha thats true. xD  Though minus the limits of the game there most be some diversity in height in the world.  Or not.

There should be some diversity in height. It's only natural.

If it weren't for the height factor there are many elves that I would've thought were human. Iona for example doesn't look elven at all to me.

As someone always interested in the elven language of Thedas, I stumbled across an interesting dev post of Lukas Kristjanson, who also wrote the lyrics of the one beautiful elven song down there, which where used in the Leliana's DLC (the part in the dungeon) So I thought I share that part ;)

Suledin (Endure)

Melava inan enansal
ir su araval tu elvaral
u na emma abelas
in elgar sa vir mana
in tu setheneran din emma na

lath sulevin
lath araval ena
arla ven tu vir mahvir
melana ‘nehn
enasal ir sa lethalin

Phonetic
mee-LAH-vah-ih-nawn ehn-AH-sahl
eer soo ahr-AH-vel too ehl-vah-rehl
oo- na EMM-ah ah-BELL-aws
in ELL-gahr sah weer MAH nah
in too SETH-in-AIR-awn din EMM-ah nah

lawth soo-lah-VEEN
lawth ar-RAH-val eh-NAH
ahr-lah VEHN too veer mah-VEER
mee-LAH-nah nay-inehn-ah-sal eer sah leth-ah-LEEN

Translation (rough)
Time was once a blessing
but long journeys are made longer
when alone within.
Take spirit from the long ago
but do not dwell in lands no longer yours.

Be certain in need,
and the path will emerge
to a home tomorrow
and time will again
be the joy it once was

You are welcome Addai :) Though I find it a pity that there are no other lyrics available for the DA main song or "I am the one", I would love to know those as well.

Ah... she is. I never got a good look. The room was always too cramped before and after was... not convenient.

So over in the 'who do you hate' thread, I came across someone who despises Soris because he doesn't protest enough if you accept the bribe in the CE origin and if you take the specific conversation tree of saying 'you can't buy me' then Vaughan asks Soris what he thinks and he says that he doesn't knwo and it's a lot of money but doesn't urge you to take it, just is indecisive and it's not his decision anyway as if you attack Vaughan he won't get any money and if you leave he can't kill all three/four of them on his own. It never really occured to me TO blame him for your choices or for not immediately saying 'Getting ten silver for your wedding is a miracle and you'll never get that kind of money again so, naturally, the thought of 400 times that is supposed to completely bore me.' I believe that, if you insisted on leaving the decision up to him, he would have done the right thing.

Does anybody else really see something wrong with Soris' behavior in the rescue? Especially as he's one of only three possible people willing to go to the rescue (you or Nelaros being the others)?

As my old Poli Sci prof. loved to say people dont vote with their hearts and heads, they vote with their wallets.

Unless you were some Paladin of Purity, that much money all of the sudden getting thrust into your face, when before you had none would be tempting.

Wouldnt tempt me, not because I am nice, but because only seeing Vaughan being turned into a funny looking stain all over the walls and floor is what I desire.

Soris sees what's coming. Yes, Shianni has been raped, but if you kill Vaughan, there will be a pogrom. There really isn't any way to avoid it. So the question is just how bad will the future be? I think with Vaughan alive, the future is even more grim than with Vaughan dead, but Soris has no way to know that. I think he's trying to convince himself that if you take the money and leave things won't get any worse.

As players we all know that things get worse irregardless. But Soris doesn't know that.

No, I didn't see anything wrong with how Soris acted then. He doesn't advocate taking the money - he's just neutral about it. Also, to him, it might seem like a choice between 'take the money and get out of there alive, guaranteed' or 'fight and maybe get killed'. He doesn't know you can just reload, after all. Most people are at least a little concerned about possible death.

I agree that if you left it up to him he'd probably go for the attack, but there's no way to be certain.

I was playing The Witcher over the weekend and was interested to note that DA wasn't the first to have elves as the downtrodden fringe of society.  But thus far I've barely gotten a glimpse of one of them, and obviously the protagonist is (sort of) human.  Likewise the changes to DA, namely a voiced protagonist which means the PC just got a lot more expensive, probably spell the end of playing an elf or dwarf PC in future games.

So I was trying to think what other games allow you to play a serious, customizable elf protagonist.  Please don't say WoW.  Posted Image  There is Oblivion I guess, but the only LOTR games I've seen have been pretty dismal.

I'm only just now playing Awakening (waited for the patch) and my jaw dropped when the Dark Wolf was clearly an elven man.  An elf (with *cough* a great baritone) causing havoc among the human nobles of Amaranthine?  Tell me more!

Alas, no more.

Hey, mod folks - is it possible to see what's under the helmet?  I'm kind of curious if there's a developed face under there or just a default head.

He's an elf?? How do you know? I just assumed because his name is Lord so-and-so that he actually was a rogue noble human.

Well, he's shorter than my HNF. I kinda assumed. (I think Ser Wolf of Rivain is just a pseudonym he gave to the messenger to tip you off that the Dark Wolf is looking for you.)

I never thought he was an elf but now that I think about it, he didn't seem tall enough to be a human male.

Elves that are mages = most disliked characters :( Get no loving anywhere. And regarding the Dark Wolf, isn't his body type too "big" to be a male elf?

He could always be one of those mythical half-dwarves we've heard of but never seen, I guess.
