I think you just get the standard 'hey, we don't hate you because you're elven' dialogue.
Aww that sucks. I was hoping for something along the lines of "Dalish? You're dalish? Hey everyone the Dalish are real!"

You feel that it's unreasonable to at least respect if not completely buy into (although telling them this might not be a good plan) their culture if they're going to let you join them?
it's not really dead if the Dalish still practice it, now is it?

That I think is the case, since Dalish elves -- like said before-- wouldn't freely venture into a city where the 'flat ears' live.dream_operator23 wrote...
I just assumed that no one really even knows what a Dalish looks like since no one in the game says anything about it (except for party members, who of course know what you are). They probably just assume you are a badassed, tattooed Warden elf from some city. ^^
Off the top of my head I can only remember on the Redcliffe tavern (Berwick and Loyd) for that. Addai made a video hereDoes any other non-party member NPC recognize a Dalish Warden for what they are? I can't think of any off the top of my head...

Actually now that I think about it, both Cailan and Logain recognize you as Dalish, but that would make sense seeing as they would be more worldly than your average Ferelden. That's because their devotion to the old culture is what has allowed them to remain cohesive and survive as a people. It's not just quaintness, it's literal survival, in a social and spiritual sense first but that contributes to one's will to hold together and endure hardship. I could name some ethnic minorities in modern times for whom this is also true, but you get the idea.Wulfram wrote...
But my point is that becoming a dalish elf requires more than the willingness to leave the city and live a tough life in the wilderness. They won't take you unless you buy into the obsession with a centuries dead culture, take up the worship of gods you've never heard of and get a rather ugly tattoo. So for most it's probably not much of an option - the only way out seems to be killing archdemons.
Outside Zathrian's camp, only Redcliffe tavern, as Meri said.dream_operator23 wrote...

He's written codex entries on practicaly everything. I think that when you first meet him he doesn't care what you are as long as you're not a cultist and then he's caught up in Sacred Ash fever.Sandtigress wrote...
I was really surprised that Brother Genetivi didn't have something, given his fascination with the Dalish. A few of the Dalish codex entries were written by him, like the one you get on vallaslin if you're not Dalish (maybe not an elf...)

Also the city elves "conspire" agains the Dalish at times. It was city elves and humans together who attacked the PC's parents.

You have to persuade her (woman by the campfire who was like a mother to you) to tell you what happened to them.Corker wrote...

O.o When do you learn this? The older lady by the campfire mentioned my parents' tragic demise, and Varathorn said it was so sad, but nobody has actually followed through with the tale. ETA: That I could find. I don't doubt the hahrens here, but I thought it was left ambiguous on purpose.
I was all gung-ho to write my own Tragic Parental Demise, too. <_<

Of course the time I decide to try a no-Persuasion run, this happens... Thanks, Sarah.
@Sandtigress, thanks for the summary. I was bucking for keeper-dad to have gone abomination, requiring hunter-mom to kill him. Because surely some Dalish magi attract demons? And it would have gone well with unclean and cast out Warden. Le sigh.
That seems cruel though, you drop off a kid who dosent get to know its parents ever, just to be toghther.Sandtigress wrote...

Hey, they're the only two who were there. Maybe the human/city elf story is what momma elf told the Keeper happened!
I think it seems cruel for the mother to stay just long enough to give birth and then wander off never to be seen again. My Dalish, in her more lucid moments, seriously resents this.Giggles_Manically wrote...
